Job Description

Systems Engineer / Business Analyst(London/Hybrid/Chelmsford)

Who are CloudNC?

At CloudNC we are ambitiously and successfully developing deep technology that automates CNC Manufacturing. We have a factory running commercially to produce intricate and high-specification work for our clients which allows us to also tie in our software to a tangible, physical output.

In excess of £150 Bn worth of components are produced using CNC machines every year. The industry is reliant heavily on human input, it is slow and costly. Demand and value of the industry is rapidly growing, as are the increased demands on a vanishing workforce (50% will retire within the next decade).

We are driving a manufacturing revolution (Industry 4.0) and we have achieved notable success and world firsts where others have failed. We are ambitiously scaling up with credible backing, with incredible backers, and exceptional teams. We have been featured in Forbes and technology linked organisations (e.g. TechCrunch, The Engineer etc.), we were awarded and named as Technology Pioneers by the World Economic Forum and our founders are listed in the Forbes 30 under 30.

What it’s like to work together.

With our recent successful investment round, we are now embarking on a strong scaling plan over the short/medium and long term - pivotal to this success are the people.

Our teams have their own individuality and operate with their own cadence, we would love to have those discussions with you during the interview process. We are guided by the mission and by being humans of empathy, intellectual curiosity, collaboration, and continuous improvement/development (of self and the team)

We are over 80 people strong, with the ambition to double this headcount in the near future. We encourage your thoughts and feedback to help shape the company, whether through direct correspondence, Peakon platform, open door time and other channels.

We operate a “flexible first” environment, our HQ office is based in London and our modern factory is based in Chelmsford, Essex.

The Role

Systems Engineer/Business Analyst.

We are looking for a System Engineer/BA to help us define and build our AMT products. The role will focus on discovering and documenting the desired characteristics of manufacturing plans produced by our software. This documentation will be used in collaboration with product management to scope product releases and make high level prioritisation decisions. In addition, it will be used by development teams to guide planning and execution of software development sprints. The role works closely with our factory to understand industry best practice and with our technical teams to redefine the art of the possible.

The role can be broadly summarised as:

1. Discover, organise, document high level features and detailed requirements, and work closely with our Product Owner, Product Manager and others to ensure our development and product roadmaps are aligned.

2. Manage detailed requirements for our development team including definition of acceptance criteria, working closely with subject matter experts.

3. Form a key communication link between domain experts, stakeholders, and software engineers, engaging with both groups during all stages of the software development lifecycle.

The majority of requirements gathering for this role will be focussing on understanding the complex (and often counter intuitive) domain of machining and ensuring that our automatically produced toolpaths do the right thing. This contrasts with typical analysis activities of workflow definitions and mapping data flows. We believe that the complexity of our software is such that developers must be involved in the discovery process early, in order to build the right thing. You will work closely with software engineers throughout the discovery process, and encourage them to participate directly.

The Ideal candidate.

You are a System Engineer/BA at the top of your game, able to draw on your experiences of complex physical processes in a domain such as manufacturing, design, automotive etc. In collaboration with subject matter experts, you are able to understand the driving factors behind all aspects of the machining process, documenting potential solutions and new features for our software team to implement.

You excel in small teams and can cover a broad range of topics, going deep into the technical details when required. You are comfortable with software engineers, factory shift workers, and research and development software and manufacturing engineers, and form an important communication link between them.

Skills and Experience sought.

· Capable of learning and understanding machining processes, aspects of quality inspection and customer’s engineering requirements

· Experience in a technically complex domain

· Experience building software products

· Requirements management for products and/or features

· Mathematical analysis and modelling

· Comfortable working with a partially remote team

· Excellent written and asynchronous communication

· Experience with requirements documentation tools

· Able to balance workload between multiple work streams

· Attention to detail

Responsibilities.

· Technical requirements management for future and ongoing product development

· Analysis of autonomous results to identify gaps and prioritise development

· Proactively organise effective discovery and requirements gathering processes and workshops

· Work with Product Management to understand product direction and prioritise your own focus areas accordingly.

· Leverage dedicated subject matter experts for:

· Written reports

· Physical experiments

· Meetings, discussions and workshops either in person or remotely

· Other activities as you deem necessary

· Effective collaboration with engineering managers, technical leads, key stakeholders to drive project planning and execution of complex software development projects.
