Job Description

In this role

Ably works closely with its customers to ensure they succeed in delivering realtime applications at scale using the Ably platform APIs. We are expanding our Customer Success team with the hiring of a dedicated Integration Engineer to look after our fast growing enterprise customer base. This will involve close engagement on a regular basis to ensure they are receiving the service they require – both technologically and with respect to technical support. Our Integration Engineer will be at the forefront of any technical architecture decisions customers may have, integration issues and will support customers with their new capability rollouts.

Ably is looking for a motivated Integration Engineer who has a desire to work in the cloud infrastructure industry, where you will build your technical skills as well as learn from top subject matter experts.

Day to day, you will:

  • Make sure customers have a smooth & successful onboarding with the Ably product by acting as the Technical voice of their customer success team.

  • Review code and architectural rollout and advise on best practices

  • Advocate for customer needs & feedback to internal teams

  • Advise on architectural choices and advise new customers on using Ably’s platform in the most efficient way

  • Work in partnership with Customer Success Managers to advise customers technically on how best to optimise their integration with Ably. This will contribute to QBRs, health scoring, and other processes.

  • Provide overviews of Ably’s product roadmap in regular overviews of services with clients.

  • Understand and advise how implementing additional Ably functionality can provide greater value to the customer

  • Gather feedback from clients to drive product innovation, process improvement, support processes, etc.

  • Build & maintain a deep understanding of the Ably product and related technologies to lead value-adding conversations with customers and understand their needs

  • Foster a love of Ably in clients by providing first-class technical customer support.

  • Guide customers on how to use key product features with code examples, live demos, etc.

  • Report on product performance

  • Identify solutions to reduce support costs

It is essential that you have:

  • Experience in a SaaS/PaaS environment as a Solution architect, Integration Engineer, Software Engineer or Developer Relations.

  • Technical experience - competent development skills. You are happy writing, reviewing and advising on coding best practice in turn related to Ably functionality. Ably is a code-first product, built by developers for developers to use, so it’s imperative to deeply understand Ably and the code we deploy to our customers.

  • Knowledge of programming and development concepts, including event-driven systems. Ably is a deeply technical platform so understanding the space our customers work in is essential.

  • Project management skills, including handling multiple tasks from multiple accounts all with competing priorities

  • Leadership skills and ability to manage stakeholders in group meetings and during complex technical discussion.

  • Strong skills in expectation setting and delivering against those expectations.

  • Strong level of empathy for customers & willingness to understand their requirements and work

  • The ability to communicate with key stakeholders at all levels of an Enterprise organisation

It would be nice if you have:

  • Directly supported Developers as your primary customer.

What’s it like to work at Ably?

Ably is entering a new phase of growth led by an experienced senior team. You’ll be part of a successful, highly motivated, and extremely collaborative team.

To provide the infrastructure required for the next generation of the internet, to tell the world about it, and to support everyone inside Ably to do so we hire people who are ready and capable of taking on challenging problems in a high-growth environment.

We want to work in a company of inclusive people who treat each other well. To really thrive at Ably, you’ll need to believe in and be prepared to do your work in line with our values, which are:

  • Open for all. Open is a mindset. When open, we’re better collaborators, communicators and creators. Whether open source, standards, or protocols, open hearts, minds, and eyes. It’s better when it’s open.

  • Bias for action. We avoid analysis paralysis at all costs. We lean into doing in order to move us forward. When we have enough of what we need to act, we act.

  • Even the best do better. We want to be the best - but that doesn’t mean we rest when we are. Improvement and growth - true betterment - is an ongoing journey. One fuelled by curiosity and taking risks.

  • Technology needs humanity. Our technology means little without people - whether that’s how we treat our colleagues, or how we design developer experiences. Being human matters.

  • Dependable people make dependable things. Dependability is integral to our mission and technology, but being dependable starts with our people. When we care enough to take real ownership of our products and problems - all else will follow.

  • Bold creativity leads to the greatest rewards. When viewed through a different lens, what stands in the way can become the way. The bigger the challenge the easier the choice: bold creativity will always move us forward, create better outcomes, and set us apart.
