Job Description

The purpose of the Comma Academy Trainee role is to prepare for a consultancy role with Comma in one or more of the following specialist areas: Master Data Management (MDM) business consultancy; MDM application/technical consultancy; MDM solution architecture, Data Migration, Data Quality and Data Governance. Trainees will undertake a programme of work that involves both technical and non-technical training alongside immersion in Comma projects and client support via a series of placements.

The focus of your role:

The purpose of the Comma Academy Trainee role is to prepare for a consultancy role with Comma in one or more of the following specialist areas: Master Data Management (MDM) business consultancy; MDM application/technical consultancy; MDM solution architecture, Data Migration, Data Quality and Data Governance. Trainees will undertake a programme of work that involves both technical and non-technical training alongside immersion in Comma projects and client support via a series of placements.

In order to be successful, you will build your knowledge and experience across a breadth of areas, spend time shadowing and learning from experienced consultants in a project environment and provide remote support to Comma clients and projects. In doing so you will build valuable relationships with clients and Comma consultants, with a view to becoming a ‘fully-fledged’ consultant in one or more of the above specialisms at the end of 1 year.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake training in some or all of the following areas:
  • Master Data Management (MDM) Business Consultancy
  • Introduction to MDM
  • Business Analysis and Process design
  • Building logical data models
  • Working with MDM/PIM technologies (e.g. Stibo Systems, Tibco, inRiver, Semarchy)
  • Configuration & build of MDM technologies (as mentioned above), gaining appropriate certifications where applicable
  • MDM Solution architecture
  • Data Quality Management
  • Working with Data Quality Management, Data Preparation and Data Integration Technologies (e.g. Talend, Alteryx, Cluedin, Experian)
  • Data Governance and Metadata Management
  • Working with Metadata Management Technologies (e.g. Collibra, Alex, Alation, Comma Data Governance platform)
  • Data Migration design and execution
  • Business Change
  • Project Management
  • Shadow experienced Comma consultants on in-flight client projects, developing experience in consulting in a client environment (via placement)
  • Take ownership of specific deliverables within the above projects as directed by the project team
  • Shadow Comma support analysts in the Comma support organisation, developing experience in providing high-quality support to valued clients (via placement)
  • Take ownership of specific support incidents and issues as directed by the support team
  • Contribute to internal Comma projects and/or research as directed by Comma management (via placement)

Reporting line

  • You will report to our Head of Learning & Development.
  • You will be required to contribute to the development and maintenance of your personal development plan under the guidance of our Head of Learning & Development.

What you’ll bring:

  • You’ll be graduate calibre, ideally with experience of working in data or data management
  • You will have an understanding of data modelling, data analysis and data technologies
  • You’ll be a confident communicator, who is comfortable working in a client-facing, consulting environment
  • You will have the ability to multi-task and prioritise a high-volume workload as appropriate
  • Ability to work independently and manage own time effectively without supervision
  • A self-starter, proactive, resilient with a positive, “can-do” and “roll-up-the-sleeves” mentality to get the job done
  • Experience working in a project delivery environment
