Role Purpose/Business Unit:

  • Managing and optimising Vodacom’s voice traffic routing to global carriers.
  • Ensure high-quality service delivery and cost-effective routing.
  • Ensure compliance with International Telecommunications Standards.
  • Mitigate Fraud and arbitrage risks.
  • Collaborate with global carriers.
  • Managing dial codes, pricing and destinations.
  • Implement strategies to enhance revenue performance and profitability.
  • Management of strategic deals.
  • Provide administrative support.

Your responsibilities will include:

Traffic Management and Optimization

  • Monitor and analyse international voice traffic to ensure efficient routing and high-quality service.
  • Implement strategies to optimize call routing, balancing cost and quality considerations.
  • Identify and resolve issues affecting voice traffic.

Carrier Relations and Negotiations

  • Maintain relationships with international voice carriers.
  • Manage updates and communication with partners regarding system changes, rate cards, dispute and settlement processes.

Fraud and Arbitrage Management

  • Monitor fraud detection to identify and prevent fraudulent activities.
  • Collaborate with FRSS, Revenue Assurance, local voice interconnect and local fraud management teams to proactively prevent subscriber vulnerabilities and any fraud types.
  • Keep abreast on emerging fraud trends and develop proactive measures to combat them.
  • Block numbers detected for any type of fraud e.g IRSF and Wangiri.

Deal Management

  • Oversee the negotiation, execution, and management of international voice traffic deals.
  • Ensure that all deals align with company objectives and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of all deals and monitor and track volume, revenue and cost performance. Apply corrective measures when deals are not on track.

Service Management

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality voice services, acceptable levels of capacity and availability to meet customer expectations.
  • Coordinate with technical, internal and external support teams to resolve service issues promptly.
  • Implement service improvement initiatives based on customer performance metrics.

Margin Management

  • Ensure competitive but profitable wholesale pricing.
  • Implement strategies to improve profit margins, such as optimizing routing and negotiating better rates.
  • Monitor financial performance and adjust as needed to achieve financial targets.

Dial Code Management

  • Maintain and update dial code databases to ensure accurate routing of international calls as published by various forums: GSMA, ITU, and Carrier Rate Sheets.
  • Ensure compliance with International dialling standards and country specific regulations.
  • Collaborate with technical and billing teams to implement dial code changes and updates.

Pricing and Rate Sheet Management

  • Managing and timeous and accurate uploading of rate sheets from the Carriers.
  • Compiling and timeous issuing of pricing sheets to the Carriers/Customers.
  • Maintain the accuracy and completeness of the rate sheets (manual and system).
  • Managing pricing and rate disputes.
  • Negotiate termination rates to achieve competitive pricing.
  • Select carriers based on performance, reliability and cost-effectiveness.

Destination Management

  • Manage international call destinations to ensure optimal routing and quality.
  • Analyse destination performance and implement improvements where necessary.
  • Collaborate with carriers to manage destination-specific issues and opportunities

Quality Assurance

  • Monitor key quality (QoS) performance indicators such as availability, call success rate, Mos Scores (media quality) based on the voice product types, SLA’s e.t.c.
  • Collaborate with internal and external key stakeholders to address and resolve quality queries efficiently.
  • Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance customer satisfaction

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure all international calling operations comply with the relevant telecommunications regulation and standards.
  • Keep abreast about regulation changes and policies and adjust operations accordingly.

Reporting and Analytics

  • Prepare regular reports on voice traffic performance, costs and revenue.
  • Analyse traffic data to identify trends, anomalies and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to senior management.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Matric Certificate essential.
  • Relevant financial/ technical tertiary qualification or related field is essential.
  • At least 3-5 years exposure to carrier services (technical or commercial).
  • Proven track record in contract negotiation and traffic management.
  • Strong understanding of telecommunications regulations and industry standards.

Core competencies, knowledge, and experience:

  • 2 years experience in International Calling traffic management or a similar role (routing, analysis, reporting and monitoring).
  • Knowledge of basic network elements and routing principles.
  • Ability to interpret agreements and execute strategies.
  • Understanding of the South African electronic communications regulatory framework, and strong understanding of International industry regulatory requirements and standards such as defined by the ITU-T, GSMA.
  • Strong Commercial acumen & ICT awareness.
  • VoiP technology.
  • SIP Protocols.
  • Mobile bearer technologies as defined by 3GPP/IETF/GSMA.
  • High standard of written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to project influence with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to form, and manage stakeholder (colleagues, customers, and industry) relationships at all levels both internally and externally.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyse, and interpret complex data sets.
  • Applying expertise in technology and ICT awareness.
  • Proficiency in using traffic monitoring and analysis tools.
  • Proficiency in pricing strategies and rate sheet management.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
