Role Purpose/Business Unit:

To perform engineering, architecture, optimisation, dimensioning, high level support and research of the Telco over Cloud common infrastructure. To provide support in this regard to both internal and external, local and international teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Detailed network architecture design, planning and implementation of all Telco over Cloud infrastructure
  • Detailed network architecture design, planning and implementation of VIM/Hypervisor layer for virtualisation and containerisation
  • Research, manage, scoping, specification, testing and roll out of new application, products, services and equipment on TOC infrastructure
  • Manage roll out of new software as well as firmware on the TOC environment
  • Co-ordinate and execute acceptance testing
  • Provide High level support to internal and external customers
  • Development of tools to assist within the planning and optimisation of the Core Packet Switching network
  • Interface with and communicate technical concepts in a clear manner-to internal, external customers and suppliers
  • Maintain Relationships with the respective vendors and divisions
  • Evaluate system architecture and recommend system improvements to other engineering departments and suppliers

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Matric (Essential)
  • A 3 year degree/diploma in Engineering, Computer Science or Electrical or equivalent qualification. (Essential)
  • Minimum 3 Years’ experience in a combined Networking and telecommunications environment (Essential)
  • A minimum 1-2 years’ experience in Core Networks Elements (Essential)
  • At least 2 years proven working experience of Internet Protocol (IP) (Essential)
  • Working knowledge of virtualisation and containerisation, VMware, Fushion Sphere, OpenShift and Kubernetes desirable
  • Research, evaluation, acceptance testing and implementation of new vendors in a telecommunication environment desirable
  • Minimum 1-2 years experience of GSM, GPRS/UMTS/LTE principles and protocols (Essential)
  • A good knowledge and understanding of the NFV/SDN/IoT will be an added advantage
  • CDN knowledge will be an added advantage

  • Relevant GSM Core systems
  • GPRS/ LTE/ WiFi/ Mobile Convergence, NFV, Orchestration and SDN
  • Telco over Cloud Infrastructure Design
  • VIM/Hypervisor Design (KVM Openstack, VMWare, Kubernetes etc.)
  • Data systems (IPv4, IPv6 Firewalls, Routers, Switches, IPLCS, Policy Control, load balances, service platforms, DNS)
  • Telecommunication Industry and current government telecomm legislation as well as developments within ETSI/3GPP IETF and ITU-T
