Senior Specialist: Transmission

Role Purpose/Business Unit:

To provide high level technical support and Service and Quality Assurance for short term and long-term strategy in the Transmission Network.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Act as team leader for the regional Transmission Assurance team
  • Provide Maintenance and Network Quality Transmission Support to the Regional Counties.
  • To Maintain and Improve the Capacity and Quality of the Transmission network
  • To co-ordinate & manage plan high-level projects
  • Support implementation of new Transmission equipment to improve quality and support rollout, growth and next generation technologies and network expansion plans
  • Manage higher order network entity assurance and configuration
  • Liaison with central Project Management, Regional Property, Maintenance , Installation and Ops Support departments and external contractors.
  • Managed Transmission Performance
  • Manage Transmission Network Quality
  • Maintain Transmission Master plan
  • Involvement in Vodafone benchmarking and preparation at Regional Level & National level
  • To ensure network NED targets are met

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

• 3 years National Diploma or Degree in Electrical (light current), Electronic or Computer Engineering or a SAQA accredited equivalent in a related field.
• Transmission Technical Courses - any Transmission principles, SDH, GPS Network Synchronization, Optic Fibre Systems (Essential)
• At least 5 years relevant telecommunications experience
• Good knowledge & experience in the Microwave, Fiber, Router, Synchronisation and Switches technologies specific to Tellabs/Coriant, Nera, SIAE, Hughes, Radwin, Symmetricom, Nokia, Alcatel Lucent and application
• TDM, ATM, PDH, SDH, C/W/DWDM, IP/MPLS, MEF, IP & TX architecture, IP & TX Protocols knowledge and application
• Project Management and advanced Excel knowledge
• IP Expert in Layer 1 to 4 of OSI stack and Standards in IEEE, ITU, MEF, Optical, RF
• Analytical thinker & solution oriented Resilient planning, evaluating statistics and raw data towards required outputs in TX planning
