Role Purpose/Business Unit:

Senior Specialist Internal Communications is responsible for the management of employee communications process from development through to distribution, using a range of channels to ensure ease of access, clarity, consistency and transparency. This is a key position in the organisation which encompasses developing, maintaining and continually improving a proactive and effective internal communications plans and tactics to increase employee engagement and understanding. Emphasis is on the ability to be articulate, particularly with varying types of content for varying job levels in the organisation.

The role covers the following portfolios in the organisation:

  • The People Agenda
    (All HR departments including Talent & Culture, Rewards & Benefits, Wellbeing, Diversity, Inclusion, Equity & Belonging and more)
  • External Affairs
    (This includes portfolios such as Sustainability, Foundation and Public Affairs)
  • Vodacom Regions (All locations outside Midrand)

Your responsibilities will include:

  • To provide a communications consultancy and advisory service to various business units within the organisation.
  • To manage internal campaigns from inception to completion – inclusive of message development and content packaging.
  • Identify appropriate communication channels for specific campaigns
  • To support the execution of the Vodacom Internal Communications objectives
  • To assist in the management of communication channels and content calendar within Vodacom
  • To manage relationships with internal clients and stakeholders, regional coordinators, leaders, service providers and vendors
  • To write copy for various divisions and internal announcements as and when required
  • To copy write for various channels including email, social media, intranet, brochures/leaflets, and SMS
  • To compile and implement communication plans for various initiatives/campaigns
  • To collaborate with the events division to execute events and provide communication support for events

A key success to this role will be to bring the People agenda to life where the following is needed:


  • Partner closely with all HR departments to develop and deliver internal communications that support the People Agenda and drive employee engagement.
  • Translate complex HR initiatives and policies into clear, accessible, and inspiring communications for all employees, ensuring alignment with Vodacom’s values and culture.
  • Collaborate with HR leaders to plan and execute communication campaigns that promote new people programmes, benefits, and wellbeing initiatives across the organisation.
  • Act as a communications advisor to HR, providing strategic input on messaging, tone, and channel selection to maximise reach and impact.
  • Gather feedback from employees and HR stakeholders to continuously improve the effectiveness of people-related communications.
  • Support the launch and ongoing communication of business initiatives, ensuring messaging is inclusive and resonates with all employee groups.
  • Work with HR and leadership to celebrate people achievements, milestones, and success stories, reinforcing a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Ensure all internal communications related to the People Agenda are consistent, timely, and aligned with broader organisational objectives.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Matric/ Grade 12 (essential)
  • 3 year degree or diploma in either Communications, Journalism, PR Marketing or equivalent (essential)
  • 5-8 years hands-on experience in internal communications (essential)

  • Sound understanding and knowledge of internal communication as part of the overall communications process.

  • Intermediate or advanced computer literacy in Word; Outlook; PowerPoint presentations & design; Excel
  • Understand principles of communication
  • Proven ability to produce high quality, professional text and to flex tone of voice depending on topic or audience
  • Proven capability in acquiring good user-level skill on a wide range of tools that are used in the communications world
  • Data analytics skills - Proven ability to draw analyse data and draw insights
  • Ability to lead and handle a range of partners, at very different levels within the organisation, to achieve equally good outcomes.
  • Demonstrate awareness of current trends and ability to adopt for internal communications.
  • Ability to operate in complexity and manage ambiguity
  • Ability to negotiate with stakeholders while remaining professional and level-headed.
  • Ability to be agile and responsive to emerging needs.
