The role is responsible for overall accountability of Digital Engineering in the market by building and leading a high-performing local Engineering organization. It drives strong local delivery while operating within a globally connected model and champions the “build once, reuse multiple times” philosophy. The role ensures that internal and external developers follow Vodafone guardrails and best practices, and it seeks new innovations using AI use cases to improve our SW Lifecycle and, by consequence, the time-to-market in Vodafone.

What you’ll do

  • Connect markets and common digital capabilities to achieve the global outcomes of re-use and leveraging scale.
  • Responsible for the overall delivery of digital portfolio in the market from integration with core IT, to successful delivery to market.
  • Tight interlock with local CIO and exceptional stakeholder management of local Commercial Heads.
  • Drive industry best practice in a global engineering capability (e.g. DXL Engineering) ensuring a balance of local backlog delivery and global re-use and collaboration
  • Own end to end local finances of digital deliveries, including internal Capex/Opex and the management of supplier commercials.
  • Responsible for building and leading a capable and empowered team of engineers & connecting across multiple markets with a shared, clear vision.
  • Manage local sourcing strategy and strategic vendor relationships to achieve goals of innovation, speed, and efficiency.
  • Connect global Software Engineering Acceleration (hyper-scaling) initiatives across markets (e.g. IaC, Web Component libraries, mDDS).
  • Create Scaled Agile Delivery practice, defining agile principles and ways of working in market, including Product Increment planning and governance – aligned to the global engineering delivery model.

Who you are

  • A proven track record of leading engineering teams with an in-depth understanding of the technologies, processes and architecture required for delivering high quality digital products at pace.
  • Strong experience in leading and managing with complex customer and stakeholder engagement.
  • Extensive experience in one or more of the key engineering domains (ex, app, web, chat).
  • A deep understanding of the full software development lifecycle including multiple delivery methodologies with the ability to mentor, motivate and shape high performing teams.
  • Experience in establishing scaled agile delivery teams, including setting up the concept of Release Trains, and associated Release Tran Engineers (RTEs).
  • Excellent Programme and Portfolio management skills.
  • Leading knowledge, research and evangelism across Vodafone and the wider industry.
  • Leadership skills, in particular: team engagement, influence, communications and relationship building skills.
  • Delivery focused, strong decision-making skills to drive alignment and agreement with key business and other internal stakeholders and excellent communication skills and ability to lead teams across multi sites and multi-functional boundaries.
  • Able to collaborate among a globally distributed engineering organization with a mission to delivery customer value with sustainable speed through reusability, automation and implementing best engineering practices.
  • High energy and passionate individual who inspires teammates to reach their maximum potential.
  • An enthusiastic interest in modern software engineering practice, tooling, technology and techniques.
  • Drives a non-hierarchical culture of collaboration, transparency, and trust across the team.
  • Fluency in English.
