About this Role

We are seeking a skilled Ab Initio Data Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Unix and Teradata, along with basic working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The role focuses on designing, developing, optimising and supporting ETL solutions in large-scale data processing environments, with accountability for performance, stability and production support.

What you’ll do

  • Design, develop and maintain ETL workflows using Ab Initio components including GDE, EME and the Co>Operating System
  • Build, optimise and support data ingestion, transformation and extraction pipelines for enterprise data platforms
  • Write and maintain Unix/Linux shell scripts for automation, scheduling and monitoring activities
  • Develop, optimise and tune SQL queries and data models within Teradata environments
  • Perform performance tuning and troubleshooting for ETL jobs and database queries
  • Collaborate with operations, infrastructure and business teams to resolve production issues and deliver enhancements
  • Follow best practices related to data quality, security, governance and compliance
  • Provide support during releases, incident resolution and root cause analysis
  • Maintain clear technical documentation covering designs, workflows and operational procedures

Who you are

  • You have strong hands-on experience in Ab Initio ETL development
  • You demonstrate good proficiency in Unix/Linux commands and shell scripting
  • You bring solid experience in Teradata SQL, performance tuning and utilities
  • You understand data warehousing concepts and ETL best practices
  • You have experience working in production support environments with incident management
  • You have basic working knowledge of GCP services such as Google Cloud Storage, BigQuery and Compute Engine
  • Exposure to cloud migration or hybrid data platforms is an advantage
  • Familiarity with scheduling tools (for example Autosys or Control‑M) and Agile/Scrum methodologies is preferred
  • You have 4–8 years of relevant experience, aligned to a Deputy Manager band role
