Job Description

About the role

As a Field Service Engineer, you’ll help keep customers connected by installing, maintaining and repairing broadband, TV and phone services in their homes. This is hands-on, practical work where your technical skills and customer approach go hand in hand. You’ll receive a starting salary of £29,000, with the potential to earn up to £36,200 through overtime and commission.

For this position, you must live in one of the following postcodes:

CA1, CA2, CA3, CA6, CA7, Ca8, DG1, DG2, DG6, DG11, DG12, DG14, DG16

Day to day, you’ll:

  • Visit customers’ homes to install and repair broadband, TV and phone services
  • Diagnose and resolve technical faults calmly and accurately
  • Explain solutions clearly so customers feel informed and reassured
  • Take ownership of jobs from start to finish
  • Work safely at heights and outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Balance technical problem-solving with excellent customer care

You’ll be supported from day one. You’ll complete structured training before heading out into the field, with ongoing coaching and access to support whenever you need it.

“I’ve really enjoyed my journey so far. From day one, I was out in the field learning hands-on alongside experienced colleagues, gaining exposure to everything from fault calls to installations. While stepping out on my own was initially challenging, it helped me build confidence quickly. I’m continuing to learn every day, and I genuinely look forward to coming to work.”

— Ryan Allison, Field Service Engineer, Teesside

“I’ve really enjoyed my first few weeks at Virgin Media O2. The transition has been smooth, and everyone has been welcoming and supportive, which makes a big difference when starting out. It’s a great environment to grow in, and I’m looking forward to building a long-term career here.”

— Regan Tait, Field Service Engineer, West Lancs

Our ways of working

This is a field-based role where you’ll work independently but as part of a wider team. You’ll need to live within one of the specified postcode areas, and your working patterns and expectations will be discussed as part of the recruitment process.

After training, you’ll work 37.5 hours across just 4 days (Monday to Saturday), with shifts ranging between 7.5 and 10 hours.
