Vets for Pets

Veterinary Surgeon - Join a really supportive practice

Apply now

Job Description

We are ideally looking for a recent graduate that wants a supportive practice to further their career. Sadly, our two-year graduate vet has decided to move to a practice closer to home.

We have a team of 8 RVNs, 2 SVNs, 1 ANA , 7 receptionists and 1 PM with 3 of our vets being JVPs (practice owners). This means we have clinical freedom and set our own prices and standards. We aim to work to the standard of a hospital as far as possible without doing our own OOH. We care deeply about our staff, our clients and their pets and will aim to always do our best for them but we do not tolerate abuse of any of our staff. We are happy for anyone interested in applying to have a casual chat with the bosses, our leaver or the other recent grads.

Our practice currently has 6 other vets and manages a wide case load. We have certificate holders in internal medicine, diagnostic imaging, surgery and anaesthesia and analgesia and are happy to support further certificates. We have a wide range of modern equipment in order to do everything we do: laparoscopy, high-end ultrasound, digital x-ray, orthopaedic equipment, endoscopy, in-house bloods etc. We continually aim to improve and have recently started offering acupuncture and physiotherapy to complement the laser therapy we have offered for the last few years. We are currently in the process of getting CT and acquiring zero pain accreditation. We don't offer a set CPD budget, but we strongly encourage and share out conference attendances and have never said no to any CPD requests yet for both our vets and nurses. We believe in a collaborative approach and our vets regularly discuss cases with each other; we aim to work to a high standard (working with the client budget) and support each other to achieve this.

Salary is experience dependent, ranging from £38000 for a new graduate and increasing dependent on experience from there. We have an enhanced benefits package with uprated pension contributions, gym membership with closest site being on the same retail park, full AXA private healthcare, 18 weeks equivalent maternity/paternity leave and 6.6 weeks plus your birthday. Our normal rota involves working three full days for two weeks and then four days the final week in a three-week rota with a one in 5 weekend shift. You are guaranteed one full surgery day per week, and there is often a second vet on surgery which means training and support are easily available, even once you can do the "basics" . Your day off is the same each week. It is a busy practice, and we are after a quick learner who likes interacting with people, but the rota is set to allow plenty of support, with time set aside for phone calls/notes and catch-upp slots in place. Consults are routinely 15 mins (once you are ready for this) but remain at 30 mins for complex cases.

For further information about the position, to have a no strings attached conversation or, to apply, please contact Rach on northvet@vets4pets.com and someone will get back to you in 1 working day

We take our inspiration from pets in embracing people from all walks of life, and we value, respect and celebrate difference. We encourage our people to be their best selves so that we can create a better world for Pets, our Planet, and People. Our ambition is to reflect the diversity of the communities we operate in, and we are intentional in addressing and removing barriers to create opportunities for the exceptional talent and potential in our communities. Even if your skills and experience don’t perfectly align, if you think you can make a unique contribution through your values and behaviours, we want to hear from you!
