Job Description

Veterinary Surgeon – Full-time. Varied role with interesting cases. Salary up to £55,000.

About us

Our small animal, locally owned practice is 10 years old and through continuous investment offers a modern and well- maintained working environment for our brilliant team.
Our team is headed up by practice owner Jordi Colas MCRVS and Senior vet Corina MCRVS who are supported by our dedicated Practice Manager Clair, who is on hand to provide non-clinical leadership and support to the whole team. They’re also joined by 2 additional full-time vets, 6 RVN’s, head nurse, 1 SVN and 3 VCA’s. The practice is also supported by 5 receptionists and a practice administrator.

There has been continuous investment in diagnostic, surgical, monitoring, and therapeutic equipment for both small animals and exotic pets and we have our own comprehensive in-house laboratory with biochemistry, Epoch, electrolytes, haematology, sediment analyser, cellular analyser, microscopes, and small exotic haematology. We also have orthopaedic equipment, a dentistry machine, IPPV, multi-parameter monitors with capnography, ECG, a Sonoscope ProPet 60 ultrasound, digital x-ray, Adaptix 3d X-ray, a tonometer, an otoscope, electrocautery, a Class 4 laser machine and access to an endoscope. We are always looking for opportunities to expand our capabilities and our services and also boast 4 separate kennels areas for dogs, cats, exotics, and isolation.

Our patients and clients

We have approximately 4500 clients and 6000 patients who travel from a 25-mile radius to see us, and we are one of very few exotic vets in the area. As well as routine surgeries and clinics we also do more complex surgeries such as orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeries (trauma and non-trauma) and echocardiography. We see many pets for medical and surgical treatment including dogs, cats, rabbits as well as small mammals like hamsters, rats and guinea pigs and more exotic exotics like sugar gliders, skunks, hedgehogs, reptiles and birds (including birds of prey).

The Role

Due to the nature of this role, we’re looking for a friendly and driven vet, confident in both consultations and surgery and committed to developing your knowledge and skills through further CPD. The role requires a minimum of 1 years’ experience working in a small animal vets or hospital in the UK as well as the skills to work on your own and as part of a team. Support and mentoring will be given on site as required.

As well as strong clinical skills, we’re also looking for someone skilled in building strong relationships with patients, clients and colleagues alike.

This is a full-time position working 40 hours a week (with some flexibility) paid lunch breaks & paid overtime. There are no OOH work involved, normally 1 Saturday in 4 with day off in week. Our out of hour services is provided by a local designated hospital.
