Job Description

Up to £80,000 + £5,000 Welcome Bonus | No OOH | Flexible Working | Standalone Practice

Looking for a role where you can deliver high-quality clinical care, feel genuinely valued, and still enjoy life outside of work?

At Wakefield Vets for Pets, you’ll find exactly that — a supportive, well-equipped practice in a fantastic location, offering the flexibility and autonomy you’ve been looking for.

Why Wakefield?

Based in a well-connected, scenic location, Wakefield offers the best of both worlds:

  • Just 20 minutes from Leeds
  • Easy access to the Yorkshire Dales and coast
  • Around 2 hours to London and 3.5 hours to Edinburgh
  • Ideally located near the M1 and M62

Whether you prefer city life, countryside escapes, or travelling further afield, Wakefield is the perfect base — and we make sure you have the time to enjoy it.

The Practice

Our purpose-built standalone practice is designed to support clinical excellence, giving you both the space and equipment to thrive.

You’ll have access to:

  • Corneal diamond burr
  • High-spec ultrasound
  • Orthopaedic surgical equipment
  • Advanced soft tissue surgical kit
  • Laparoscopic (endosurgery) equipment

If you enjoy surgery — or want to develop further — you’ll be fully supported with the tools and environment to do so.

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon who:

  • Is confident with routine medical and surgical cases
  • Is happy with occasional sole charge
  • Values being part of a friendly, supportive team
  • Wants true flexibility without compromising clinical standards

Work-Life Balance That Works

Flexibility is at the heart of what we offer:

  • Full or part-time considered
  • No out-of-hours
  • No late nights
  • Fair rota for shared Saturday mornings
  • Open, honest conversations about what works for you

We recognise that one size doesn’t fit all — and we’ll work with you to create a schedule that suits your life.

What’s in It for You?

  • Salary up to £80,000 DOE
  • £5,000 welcome bonus
  • 28 days holiday (including bank holidays)
  • Funded CPD with dedicated time off
  • Support for certificates
  • Contributory pension
  • Paid memberships (RCVS, VDS, BVA)
  • 20% discount at Pets at Home & The Vet Group
  • Access to additional company perks and benefits

Why Join Us?

As part of the UK’s leading small animal veterinary group, you’ll benefit from the stability and resources of a large organisation — while working in a close-knit, independent-feel practice.

You’ll have:

  • Autonomy to work your way
  • Support when you need it
  • Flexibility to enjoy life outside of work
  • A competitive salary that reflects your experience

If you’re passionate about delivering exceptional patient care and want a role that’s both rewarding and sustainable, we’d love to hear from you.
