About Us:
Leeds Birstall is a modern and progressive veterinary practice, set up by our Practice Owners, Keith and Julie Leonard in 2012. We are a family run, RCVS Accredited Hospital and Emergency Service Clinic, providing OOH and referral support to 16 referring surgeries. This is run alongside a thriving first opinion business meaning we get the best of both worlds: the case variety you expect to find in a busy general practice and the continuity to work this caseload up and provide high quality, advanced, referral level care to our patients in-house.
The bright, air-conditioned surgery is purpose built to industry leading standards and has state of the art equipment including IDEXX laboratory, Digital X-Ray, Ultrasound, ECG, IM3 Dental machine, IM3 dental X-ray, Orthopaedic Surgical Kit, Endoscopy, Tonopen, CT and Laparoscopy.
We are a lovely, friendly team with great communication, management, clinical support and we work to gold standard. There are 70 members of our team, which include 15 vets, day and night nurse teams and supporting day and night VCAs. A typical night team will comprises of 1 vet, 1 senior RVN, 2 VCAs and a receptionist. The OOH team is also supported by twilight RVNs who work till 12pm.
About the Role:
As part of the night team, we are looking for someone who is highly skilled, who can confidently oversee multiple cases from different disciplines. Our patients will include medical patients receiving hospital care, post-surgical patients and emergency patients. Given the varied nature of the cases we are looking for a nurse who is experienced in managing cases which include: oesophageal feeding tube care, chest drains, abdominal and wound drains, urinary catheters, and negative pressure wound therapy. As we see emergency appointments alongside our hospital patients, the shift caseload can vary and the need to monitor complex anaesthetics such as caesarian sections, GDVs, exploratory laparotomy’s is required. We have multiparameter monitors as standard, alongside a Veta5 ventilator system too. Given the type of cases and complexity of care, we feel that someone who already has, or is working towards a certificate in emergency nursing is essential for this role.
Our rota pattern is a 7 nights on, 14 nights off rota, with each shift running from 8pm to 8am. There is always a Vet on site, alongside a VCA, with the support from our twilight nurses who aid the transition between the day and night team.
Salary dependent upon experience, and we offer the excellent benefits package you would expect from a leading veterinary employer including:
- In-house support and training from certificate holders- Vet and Nurse
- Paid memberships- RCVS, VDS, BVNA
- Generous CPD allowance and support development of specific interests
