Job Description

Purpose

The role of the Principal Programmer, EVG is to provide programming support specialising in real-world evidence (RWE) techniques to the statistics and programming department across a range of projects, clients and therapeutic areas. The Principal Programmer, EVG may also perform a supervisory role (e.g. line management and/or project management).

Key Responsibilities

A trained, qualified statistical programmer with experience of real-world evidence (RWE) techniques. The position may be embedded within a client’s RWE delivery organisation, in which case the programmer’s workload will be managed and supervised by the client so that they support the delivery of the client’s RWE strategies and tactics. The person in this Principal level role will provide strategic insight into the optimal approach to be taken, leveraging their past experiences and insights.

Technical:

  • Assessment of the overall feasibility of conducting a particular RWE study concept and recommendation on adjustments needed
  • Evaluation (and/or recommendation) of a proposed data source/s to meet the study’s objectives
  • Provide technical input into the development of the study Protocol, SAP, Data Tables and Study Report
  • Data extraction from data source chosen
  • Manipulation of data into useable outputs (primarily data tables) in accordance with the SAP
  • Development of statistical outputs and reports in accordance with the SAP
  • Contribution towards writing of the study report including discussion, conclusions, limitations and recommended next steps
  • Carry out the tasks described above on all study types: descriptive, case-control and cohort studies using a variety of data sources
  • Carry out the tasks described above on a variety of data sources likely to include EMR, Medical Claims, Disease Registries and outputs from observational studies
  • Maintain and increase proficiency in R programming language and have a high-level awareness of developments in the field

People Management:

  • Line management of statisticians, programmers and other technical staff. Accountable for overall performance of direct reports (if/when assigned)
  • Provide coaching and mentoring of staff to achieve “excellence”.
  • Direct employee career development and ensure line reports receive appropriate training to perform their day-to-day jobs
  • Interview and effectively on-board and integrate new staff members
  • Provide programming technical leadership and coaching

Project Management:

  • Oversight of key client projects/portfolios including acting as the Veramed Project Manager on client projects as follows:

o Maintain the project plan o Proactive management of resource, scope change and risks to projects

o Manage the delivery of projects to budget

  • Manage client expectations and conduct issue resolution

General:

  • Lead internal and client study, project and cross functional team meetings effectively
  • Present study updates at client meetings
  • Share scientific, technical and practical knowledge within the team and with colleagues
  • Build effective collaborative working relationships with internal and client team members
  • Develop and provide internal technical training where appropriate
  • Lead process improvement initiatives when requested
  • Perform all work in full compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, company policies, procedures, and training

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • BSc, MSc or PhD in numerical discipline (or relevant equivalent industry experience)
  • At least 6 years of relevant industry experience Other Information/Additional Requirements
  • Understanding of clinical drug development process, endpoints and study designs, and their application in generating and interpreting Real World Evidence across relevant disease areas
  • Awareness of industry and project standards & ICH guidelines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal/teamwork skills for effective interactions
  • Proficiency in data handling using SAS or other statistical software (e.g. R)
  • Self-management skills with a focus on results for timely and accurate completion of competing deliverables
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of projects and/or people
  • Influencing skills
