Job Description

Every day, we deliver one of life's most essential services to millions of people across the North West. From providing safe, high-quality drinking water to protecting the environment and supporting thriving communities, the work we do matters. We're now in the second year of our £16.5 billion investment programme, one of the largest transformation programmes in our history. It's an exciting time to join us as we improve our services, enhance environmental performance, embrace innovation and create a more sustainable future for generations to come.

There's more to us than just great water. We are where purpose flows.

What you can expect being an intern in the Wastewater team

As a Business Analyst Intern, you'll join our Strategic Planning and Sustainability team, a friendly and knowledgeable group focused on using data and insight to shape the future of wastewater services.

Working alongside experienced analysts and stakeholders across Wastewater Network Plus and Bioresources, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting strategic projects, analysing data, and helping the business make informed decisions. This is an exciting opportunity to learn from industry experts while contributing to work that has a positive impact on customers, communities and the environment.

What you’ll be getting stuck into day to day:

  • Assisting with data analysis to help support business decisions and strategic planning.
  • Supporting the development of our Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan, Business Plan and County Plans.
  • Helping to collect, validate and maintain data used across key planning activities.
  • Supporting risk assessment and asset planning activities through data gathering and reporting.
  • Assisting with research into industry trends, innovation and sustainability initiatives.
  • Helping to prepare reports, presentations and insights for a variety of stakeholders.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across different teams to understand challenges and support data-driven solutions.
  • Learning how regulatory performance, business planning and investment decisions are managed within the water industry.

What you’ll bring to the team:

  • Support data analysis and reporting activities to help inform key business decisions and long-term planning.
  • Assist with the development of strategic plans, including Drainage and Wastewater Management Plans and wider business planning activities.
  • Help gather, validate and manage data used to assess risks, performance and future investment needs.
  • Contribute to research and innovation projects, identifying opportunities to improve services and deliver sustainable outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with teams across the business to provide insights, solve problems and support data-driven decision making.

Why join United Utilities as an intern?

By joining us on our Internship programme, you'll not only get first-class training and support, but we'll also provide you with an in-depth understanding of your business area, ultimately giving you the confidence, skills and knowledge required to become one of our future operational, technical or people leaders, driving meaningful change.

What's in it for you?

We know that delivering a great service starts with supporting you, our people. That's why we offer a range of benefits designed to help you thrive both at work and outside of it.

  • Starting salary of at least £25,950 pro-rated
  • 26 days annual leave + bank holidays – pro rated
  • Up to 14% employer pension contribution
  • Access to colleague wellbeing programmes and dedicated mentors who will support you whilst on scheme
