We’re looking for a talented and driven Telemetry Field Engineer to join United Utilities in a fast-paced, modern maintenance environment.
Starting each day from your home base, you’ll travel directly to sites across Lancashire and Greater Manchester, giving you the autonomy and flexibility to manage your own workload while staying connected to a highly skilled and supportive team.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver planned, proactive, and reactive maintenance across telemetry assets, ensuring reliability and performance
- Provide second- and third-line on-site technical support, diagnosing and resolving complex faults to minimise downtime
- Act as a key escalation point for Monitoring & Control Regional Engineers, offering expert technical guidance
- Work independently across multiple sites while maintaining high standards of safety, compliance, and operational performance
- Contribute to a collaborative mobile engineering team, supporting shared goals and best practices
- Ensure all activities adhere to health, safety, and regulatory requirements
- Support improvements to system reliability, performance, and environmental outcomes
- Maintain accurate records of work undertaken, including fault diagnosis, corrective actions, and technical documentation
- Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities across telemetry systems and processes
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Full UK driving licence
- Relevant engineering qualification (time-served apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, Degree, or equivalent hands-on experience)
- Strong understanding of IP networking and routing principles
- Proven experience in a field-based support role, with advanced fault-finding and diagnostic capability
- Ability to think logically, make sound decisions, and work independently
Desirable Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of telemetry, control, and automation systems, including RTUs and associated communication infrastructure
- Experience with point-to-point and multipoint radio systems and wide area communications
- Understanding of hardwired analogue and digital control systems
- Working knowledge of Microsoft and Linux operating systems and general IT hardware
- Awareness of IT and physical security principles
- Experience operating within a technical service desk or support environment
- Ability to produce accurate documentation and clear technical reports
