The Role

As a Regulatory Analyst within the Water Quality and Public Health team, you'll play a key role in protecting public health and ensuring compliance with drinking water regulations. Working closely with colleagues across the business and the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI), you'll support regulatory reporting, performance monitoring, risk management and the delivery of key water quality commitments.

Key responsibilities include:

• Regulatory Relationship Management: Support the Company's day-to-day relationship with the DWI and maintain a positive regulatory reputation.
• Regulatory Reporting: Prepare and submit regulatory reports, returns and performance information.
• Compliance and Performance Monitoring: Monitor and report water quality compliance and performance, identifying trends, emerging risks and improvement opportunities.
• Water Quality Risk Management: Support the identification, assessment and mitigation of drinking water quality risks, ensuring Drinking Water Safety Plans remain effective and compliant.
• Technical & Regulatory Support: Provide advice and guidance on water quality and regulatory requirements across the business.
• Data and Information Management: Ensure regulatory data and reporting systems are accurate, robust and fit for purpose.
• Continuous Improvement: Support improvements to regulatory processes and compliance activities to reduce risk and enhance performance.
• Strategic Support: Contribute to regulatory submissions, technical reports and business planning activities.

What You Will Be Doing:

• Manage the Company's relationship with the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI), providing regulatory expertise and coordinating responses to regulatory requests.
• Support the identification and management of water quality risks, ensuring compliance with drinking water regulations and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare, submit and monitor regulatory reports, returns and performance information, providing assurance to senior leaders on compliance and regulatory commitments.
• Act as a subject matter expert on the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations, providing advice and guidance on regulatory, water quality and compliance matters.
• Monitor regulatory developments and industry best practice, driving improvements to regulatory processes, reporting and compliance performance.
• Support technical reporting, regulatory submissions and business planning activities, ensuring data, systems and processes remain robust and fit for purpose.
• Participate in an out-of-hours rota, providing specialist support during water quality and regulatory incidents.

What We Are Looking For:

• Degree in a scientific discipline, or equivalent experience, with knowledge of drinking water regulations, standards and Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) requirements.
• Understanding of drinking water quality, public health risks, water supply operations and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills, including engagement with regulators and the ability to communicate complex information clearly.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess risks, evaluate options and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Well-developed planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to challenging regulatory deadlines.
• Understanding of regulatory reporting requirements and the importance of maintaining accurate, timely and compliant submissions.
• Proficient in the use of data, information systems and analytical tools to support decision-making, performance monitoring and regulatory reporting.
• Competent across a wide range of digital applications.
• Practical and proactive approach, with the ability to balance customer, operational, regulatory and business outcomes.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment and participation in an out-of-hours rota following training.
• The role requires travel across the region to undertake site visits and Drinking Water Safety Plan risk assessments.
• A full UK driving licence is required.
