We are looking for a mid-level Data Engineer with a strong DataOps and platform mindset to help design, build, and operate scalable, reliable, and secure data infrastructure on AWS.
This role sits within the Infrastructure / Platform group. The focus is on data platforms, orchestration, compute, and reliability, while data modeling, SQL transformations, and business logic are owned by Analytics teams.
The ideal candidate is comfortable operating production systems, collaborating closely with DevOps and Analytics, and enabling data teams through robust, well-designed infrastructure
What we expect from you, as a Data Engineer
- Technical Knowledge
- Experience with AWS, particularly:
- S3
- EMR
- ECS
- Step Functions or equivalent orchestration tools
- Amazon Redshift - Familiarity with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
- Python as the main programming language for data platform development and automation
- Hands-on experience operating production-grade data pipelines
- Good understanding of distributed systems and cloud networking fundamentals
- Experience with AWS, particularly:
- Engineering Practices
- Experience with Git-based workflows (Git)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments
- Compliance & Security Awareness
- General awareness of security and compliance best practices in cloud environments
- Familiarity with IAM, secrets management, and encryption concepts
- Awareness of regulatory and data protection requirements (e. g. GDPR, industry standards), as applicable
- Data Platform & Infrastructure
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data platforms on AWS
- Operate and optimize distributed data processing systems (e. g. EMR / Spark)
- Manage containerized data workloads using ECS
- Support and evolve the data warehouse (Amazon Redshift) from an infrastructure, performance, and reliability perspective
- Orchestration & Automation
- Build and maintain data orchestration workflows using AWS Step Functions or similar orchestrators
- Ensure pipelines are observable, resilient, idempotent, and easy to operate
- Translate analytics requirements into reliable platform-level implementations
- Apply engineering principles (KISS, YAGNI, DRY, etc.) when designing data infrastructure or workflows
Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD & Reliability - Provision and manage cloud resources using Terraform
- Use Git as the primary version control system
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines for data infrastructure and platform components
- Apply DevOps and SRE best practices to data systems (monitoring, alerting, automated testing)
- Take responsibility for production incidents, troubleshooting, and post-mortems
- Continuously improve reliability, performance, and cost efficiency of data workloads
- Collaboration & Enablement
- Work closely with Analytics teams, who own SQL, dbt models, and transformations
- Collaborate with DevOps and Cloud Infrastructure teams on shared platform standards
- Enable self-service analytics through reusable infrastructure components, templates, and tooling
- Ability to translate analytics needs into scalable, maintainable platform solutions
- Contribute to internal documentation, best practices, and architectural guidelines
We'd be particularly excited if you have
- Familiarity with DBT from an infrastructure and deployment perspective
- Experience with cost optimization strategies for data platforms
- Experience with EKS
- Experience with GCP

About our hiring process
Our hiring process typically consists of four stages:
- A call with one of our Talent Acquisition Partners.
- A take-home exercise Software Engineering Challenge.
- 2-hour video interview with two TrueLayer engineers.
- 1-hour total final round video interviews
