Job Description

At tombola, our Platform Developers are at the heart of building the technology that powers millions of player experiences.

We're looking for an experienced C#/.NET developer who is passionate about writing clean, maintainable code and enjoys solving complex engineering challenges. You'll work within a collaborative Agile team, building scalable, high-performance applications while continuously improving our technology, engineering practices, and software quality.

This is a hands-on software engineering role where you'll spend the majority of your time designing, developing, testing, and supporting modern applications using C# and .NET. Alongside this, you'll collaborate with Product, Design, QA, and Engineering colleagues to deliver solutions that are reliable, secure, and built to last.

You'll be encouraged to share ideas, influence technical decisions, and help shape the future of our engineering practices through continuous learning and collaboration.

What you'll do

Software Development

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality applications using C# and .NET.

  • Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code that improves our platforms with every release.

  • Build scalable, resilient software that delivers great experiences for our players.

  • Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and technical discussions to continually raise engineering standards.

  • Contribute to architectural and technical design decisions within the team.

Agile Delivery

  • Work as part of a cross-functional Agile team, contributing to sprint planning, stand-ups, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.

  • Break complex technical problems into achievable deliverables.

  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, QA Engineers, and other developers throughout the software development lifecycle.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Champion engineering best practices, including clean code, testing, documentation, and continuous improvement.

  • Develop robust unit and integration tests to ensure high-quality software delivery.

  • Continuously improve existing applications by identifying opportunities to simplify, optimise, and modernise our codebase.

  • Share knowledge and contribute to a culture of learning across the engineering community.

Support & Problem Solving

  • Investigate and resolve production issues, debugging applications and identifying root causes.

  • Monitor application health through logs, metrics, and observability tools.

  • Support performance optimisation and platform stability across our services.

Innovation

  • Research new technologies, frameworks, and approaches that could improve our platforms.

  • Build prototypes and proof of concepts to validate new ideas.

  • Share findings and recommendations with the wider engineering team.

Skills & experience

Essential

  • Strong commercial experience developing applications using C# and .NET.

  • Good understanding of modern software engineering principles and object-oriented design.

  • Experience working within large or complex codebases.

  • Experience building RESTful APIs and backend services.

  • Good understanding of unit testing, integration testing, and automated testing practices.

  • Experience working within Agile software development teams.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to break down complex technical challenges.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.

  • Experience working with version control and collaborative development practices such as pull requests and pair programming.

  • Ability to produce clear technical documentation.

Desirable

  • Experience with cloud technologies, ideally AWS.

  • Knowledge of frontend technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or modern frameworks.

  • Experience working with SQL databases.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

  • Experience mentoring junior developers or supporting technical growth within a team.

Why tombola?

At tombola, engineering is at the core of everything we do. We build our own platforms, invest in modern technology, and give our developers the freedom to solve interesting technical challenges.

Whether you're refining existing services, building new features, or helping shape engineering best practices, you'll join a collaborative team that values quality, continuous learning, and innovation.
