Job Description

This is a Technical Programme Manager role within the Commercial area, initially managing large, significant programmes of change related to the systems and processes underpinning how we manage promotional activity.

We are an ambitious Programme, Product & Engineering Team at Tesco aiming to deliver value and quality to Tesco, in particular Suppliers and Buyers by creating more self-sufficient, cost-effective, informative applications to assist users to complete their day-to-day activities.

It’s an exciting, dynamic area at the heart of what it means to be a retailer as the systems we operate are the backbone for all products in Tesco – covering the product details themselves, the suppliers and sellers we work with, the promotions we run and the ranging and positioning of products in our stores.

This role specifically relates to the complex systems and processes that manage promotions and the significant changes we’re doing to improve them. This includes transforming our trade planning, ensuring that the ranging and set up of the store aligns with promotional activity, whilst leveraging AI and machine learning insights to optimise promotion effectiveness.

These programmes are cross-functional, covering multiple teams and delivering directly to the value of the business by increasing the net profitability of promotions.

  • Establish new or improve existing programme delivery methodology to deliver the programme goals

  • Shape programmes with ambiguous scope and uncertain delivery approach

  • Create and track a plan to deliver the programme goals, including the technical implementation plan, ensuring colleagues and stakeholders from across Tesco are kept up to date

  • Understand trade-offs in software delivery using experience and influencing skills to drive consensus with the Engineering and Product teams to obtain the best value and solution

  • Able to foresee potential risks and issues, establish a process, facilitate discussion, and manage escalations

  • Am aware and evaluate trends and new concepts in programme and product delivery

  • Able to understand technical architecture to be able to foresee the impact on dependencies, delivery timelines and implementation plans

  • Have good knowledge of engineering best practices and practical infrastructure implementations to appreciate delivery challenges

  • Collaborate with the Product and Engineering teams to define annual budgetary requirements

  • Build positive relationships with suppliers & external stakeholders to deliver software or professional services, holding them to account on delivery and improvement plans

  • Support vendor selection processes (tendering, agreeing SLAs, warranty periods, outsourcing)

  • Facilitate and support the development of individuals

  • Contribute actively to TPM community

  • Strong understanding of Technical Programme Management disciplines and managing within multiple frameworks.

· Experience working with geographically diverse teams; programme, product, engineering, data & design.

  • A proven record of accomplishment in delivering technology.
  • You must be able to articulate complex concepts to a diverse audience.
  • The ability to influence without authority.
  • Management of annual Programme budgets. (Forecasting & Control).
