Summary:

As part of the Research & Innovation (R&I) team based out of Silicon Valley, you will spearhead our efforts to research and prototype new AI offerings, create strategic platform partnerships within the AI ecosystem, and help position SAP as the AI thought leader for enterprise solutions.

The mission of the Research & Innovation team is to contextualize and pioneer emerging technologies that will be foundational for the future success of SAP and of our customers. We are a diverse team and collaborate across roles, functions, and locations, enabling every colleague to contribute and investigate new ideas. The team operates in a very agile manner while benefitting from the advantages of a large established company.

As part of the R&I team based out of Silicon Valley, you will spearhead our efforts to research and prototype new AI offerings, create strategic platform partnerships within the AI ecosystem, and help position SAP as the AI thought leader for enterprise solutions. We closely work with Stanford and Berkeley as well as the startup ecosystem. We have partnered with leaders in the space such as Anthropic and NVIDIA.

About the Role:

  • Deep understanding of AI/ML concepts with expert knowledge in Large Language Models, Deep Learning, Neural Networks, NLP
  • Beneficial will be a more holistic understanding of how AI technology can help make great products. Also interest in working cross-functionally across many disciplines and organizations will be of benefit.
  • You will play a pivotal role within a dynamic team with a mission to embed cutting-edge AI technology to our offerings.
  • Your primary responsibility will be to drive innovation, conduct research on the latest AI advancements, and implement those in prototypes. Work with product teams to bring prototypes to production.
  • Present and communicate prototype results to stakeholders and executives.

Job Requirements:

  • MSc or PhD in a quantitative field, e.g., Computer Science, NLP, AI, Machine Learning
  • 7+ years experience in the implementation and delivery of data science and AI projects involving large & complex data sets and data science/machine learning pipeline.
  • 5+ years of experience in Deep Learning, Neural Networks, Generative AI, Knowledge graph, NLP and relevant frameworks
  • Experience in training and inference with models including GPT/LLaMA/BERT based models. Experience in RAG & agentic flows is a plus
  • Expertise and Proven track record in AI/ML
  • Strong in research paper scouting, understand GenAI research trends, able to implement research into code.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex issues to leadership and to customers
  • Conceptual understanding of architectures and technical constraints to make sure designs scale and perform and have good maintenance.
  • Experience with common analytics and data science frameworks: PyTorch, NumPy, sci-kit-learn, pandas, Keras, TensorFlow, etc
  • Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams to transfer ML/AI research outcomes into scalable services, is a plus

Compensation Range Transparency: SAP believes the value of pay transparency contributes towards an honest and supportive culture and is a significant step toward demonstrating SAP’s commitment to pay equity. SAP provides the annualized compensation range inclusive of base salary and variable incentive target for the career level applicable to the posted role. The targeted combined range for this position is 192500- 420000(USD) USD. The actual amount to be offered to the successful candidate will be within that range, dependent upon the key aspects of each case which may include education, skills, experience, scope of the role, location, etc. as determined through the selection process. Any SAP variable incentive includes a targeted dollar amount and any actual payout amount is dependent on company and personal performance.
