Job Description

We help the world run better
At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we'll bring out the best in you. We're builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what's next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You'll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What's in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.

What you'll do

Summary: SAP is launching a bold, long-term initiative to explore the transformative potential of Quantum Technologies in enterprise software. Anchored within the Office of the CTO and led by a dedicated Head of Quantum, we are building a high-caliber, world-class team of experts to create a center of expertise for Quantum Computing. This team drives SAP’s strategy, orchestrates development efforts across the company, and manages the internal and external stakeholder landscape.

As a Senior Technology Researcher/Developer Simulation, you will be a pivotal member of this central team. You will be responsible for planning and coordinating SAP-wide efforts to leverage Quantum Computing for complex simulation problems, particularly in areas like Financial Planning and other Lines of Business (LOBs).

The Role:

  • Plan, coordinate, and drive SAP's strategic efforts in leveraging Quantum Computing for simulation problems, identifying high-impact use cases in collaboration with various LOBs.
  • Act as the primary technical and strategic liaison between the Office of the CTO and SAP's LOB application development units, ensuring alignment and fostering collaboration.
  • Engage with Chief Architects across application development LOBs to discuss, define, and validate the potential impact and business benefits of Quantum Simulation.
  • Translate cutting-edge research in Quantum Simulation into tangible application demands, guiding and educating LOB experts on architectural best practices and implementation strategies.
  • Contribute directly to SAP’s overall technology and cloud architecture strategy for Quantum Computing as an active member of the Office of the CTO.
  • Drive the creation of prototypes and proof-of-concepts for high-impact simulation problems, demonstrating the path from research to enterprise-ready solutions.
  • Assume end-to-end ownership for strategic quantum simulation initiatives, from conceptualization and stakeholder alignment to guiding development and measuring success.
  • Represent SAP's quantum efforts at key internal and external events, maintaining a deep understanding of the evolving quantum ecosystem, including hardware, software, and research trends.

What you bring

  • 5+ years of professional experience in a technology research or advanced development role, ideally with a proven track record in developing complex, scalable enterprise software applications.
  • Deep expertise in Quantum Computing, with a distinct and mandatory focus on Quantum Simulation algorithms and their application (e.g., in Material Science, Chemistry, or Finance), a focus on the applicability of NISQ algorithms towards Material Science Problems is highly beneficial.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to discuss complex technical concepts with senior executives and chief architects and translate them into business value.
  • Exceptional ability to translate abstract scientific research into concrete enterprise application requirements and architectural blueprints.
  • Proven ability to manage complex topics both operationally and strategically across a large, global network of stakeholders.
  • Profound knowledge of SAP’s enterprise application portfolio is highly beneficial. Experience in Quality Management or Development Support is a strong plus.
  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field, with a strong specialization in Quantum Simulation.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English. Native in German.

Meet your team
