Job Description

We help the world run better
At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we'll bring out the best in you. We're builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what's next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You'll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What's in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.

What you’ll build

You will work on real enterprise cloud operations scenarios where AI applications and agents can help engineers detect issues, understand incidents, retrieve knowledge, automate operational tasks, improve troubleshooting efficiency, and enhance service reliability at scale.

The ideal candidate is a strong hands-on engineer, a practical AI-native builder, and an independent problem solver who can turn ambiguous product or operations challenges into reliable production software.

As a Senior AI-Native Application / Agent Developer, you will contribute to the design, implementation, and delivery of AI-powered product capabilities, agentic workflows, and intelligent automation solutions for SAP CX cloud operations.

You will be expected to combine strong software engineering discipline with modern AI-native development practices. This includes using AI coding agents, automated validation, human engineering judgment, observability, and iterative feedback loops to deliver software faster and with higher quality.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deliver production-grade AI-powered applications and agents for enterprise cloud operations scenarios.

  • Build and integrate LLM-based capabilities, AI agents, retrieval-augmented generation, tool calling, workflow automation, and intelligent decision-support features into real product experiences.

  • Develop reliable backend, frontend, or full-stack components that expose AI capabilities through secure, scalable, and user-friendly enterprise applications.

  • Design agentic workflows that may include planning, tool use, memory, state management, human-in-the-loop controls, fallback mechanisms, and integration with enterprise systems.

  • Apply AI-native engineering practices across the full software development lifecycle, including requirement clarification, technical design, coding, debugging, testing, code review, documentation, refactoring, and release preparation.

  • Use AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, ChatGPT, or similar coding agents to improve productivity, accelerate exploration, generate tests, validate solutions, and improve code quality.

  • Independently own end-to-end implementation of product features, from ambiguous requirements and technical design to implementation, validation, production release, and continuous improvement.

  • Build AI capabilities with production-grade evaluation, monitoring, reliability, security, and governance in mind, including prompt/version control, regression testing, observability, hallucination mitigation, access control, and fallback strategies.

  • Collaborate with product managers, operations experts, and engineering teams while independently shaping product logic, user experience, technical design, and implementation plans, using AI tools to accelerate ideation, prototyping, and design exploration.

  • Continuously explore and introduce AI-native engineering practices that improve team productivity, delivery speed, software quality, test coverage, and operational excellence.

  • Make sound technical trade-off decisions around quality, reliability, latency, cost, maintainability, user experience, and enterprise compliance.

  • Help raise the team’s AI-native engineering maturity by sharing practices, patterns, tools, and lessons learned with other developers.

What you bring:

We are looking for a senior AI-native application and agent developer who believes the next generation of enterprise software will be built differently: AI-assisted by default, agent-enabled by design, and continuously improved through automation, data, and feedback.

This role is not for someone who merely uses AI coding tools occasionally. We are looking for a developer who can use AI as a fundamental part of how software is designed, implemented, tested, operated, and evolved.

We are looking for a developer who is strong both in traditional software engineering and in modern AI-native development.

You should have:

  • Proven ability to independently deliver complex software features, modules, or projects from requirement clarification to production release.

  • Strong hands-on programming skills in at least one major language such as Java, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Go.

  • Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, ChatGPT, or similar tools as part of daily engineering work.

  • Strong understanding of how to use AI tools effectively without relying on them blindly, including reviewing, validating, testing, and improving AI-generated code.

  • Experience building production-quality backend, frontend, or full-stack applications.

  • Ability to break down ambiguous or complex problems, explore solution options, make technical decisions, and drive implementation independently.

  • Good understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including system design, clean code, testing, debugging, code review, CI/CD, maintainability, and operational reliability.

  • Awareness of key challenges in AI-powered applications, such as hallucination, grounding, evaluation, observability, latency, cost, privacy, security, and user trust.

  • Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly with stakeholders.

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience will also be considered.

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience or domain knowledge in operations, such as cloud operations, DevOps, SRE, incident management, monitoring, alerting, root cause analysis, provisioning, security

  • Understanding of how enterprise cloud operations teams work, including operational workflows, ticket handling, escalation processes, system health monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous service improvement.

  • Knowledge of or hands-on experience with SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP)

  • Experience applying AI, automation, or agentic workflows to operations scenarios, such as incident summarization, alert correlation, log analysis, knowledge retrieval, troubleshooting assistance, or operational task automation.
