What you’ll do

• As a PhD Intern you will work with a team of experienced researchers and applied scientists taking on challenges informed by scaling AI methods across and beyond the broad portfolio of SAP’s business software.
• Perform state of the art research on Document AI and Multimodal Document Intelligence or closely related topics.
• Learn about exciting research and applications within and outside your expertise, contributing to SAP product development.
• Publish research results and contribute to research that can be applied to SAP product development.

What you bring

• You are a PhD student at least in your second year, specializing in the research area of LLM/VLM Reasoning and LLM Agents.
• Excellent understanding of deep learning, transformer architectures, optimization methods, and LLM/VLM reasoning and planning.
• A strong publication record in top-tier ML/NLP conferences or journals (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, EMNLP, CVPR) are preferred.
• Strong background in machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, or reinforcement learning.
• Strong algorithmic problem solving skills.
• Proficient in PyTorch and Python with a good understanding of statistical analysis and shell programming.

The duration of the internship is 6 months and should take place in 2026.
