AI and Data Scientist in Embedded Research with Industry AI and SAP E-Mobility (f/m/)
ABOUT THE TEAM
The Academic Partnership organization at SAP is regarded being the bridge connecting SAP and academia. We build collaborative, structured partnerships with academic institutions and encompass a wide range of activities and programs in regards of academic teaching, academic community management, and PhD talent management.
The PhD Graduate Team stands for embedding cutting-edge research into functional teams across SAP, bringing together interdisciplinary PhD talent in a research-like environment.
What you`ll do:
The Academic Partnerships organization at SAP partners with other SAP teams to provide the best services to foster strategic research collaborations between SAP and academia. The PhD Graduate Team is responsible for building the bridge between cutting-edge research and SAP functional teams. Our mission is to facilitate the application of research across SAP and contribute to SAP research strategy with interdisciplinary research activities.
Working together with the Industry AI E-Mobility team, focusing on trustworthy, data-driven energy forecasting, you will bring the research perspectives and insights from the engineering, mobility, and data science areas to our sustainability and innovation strategy, validating the possible innovation topics and their commercialization potential, and bridging the gap between industry and academia.
The Role:
In your daily work you will be evaluating, benchmarking, developing, and improving AI models from research findings to project and product components, collaborating with data and AI scientists, AI engineers, industry experts, researchers, and business stakeholders. You will deliver innovative AI solutions for the E-Mobility field, leveraging advances from AI research, bringing them to the intersection of highly technical solutions and enterprise business context:
Research and identify latest AI and technology innovations in the E-Mobility, Renewable Energy, Sustainability field
Drive business development activities by identifying growth opportunities and high-potential research topics
Contribute to data science and AI development in e-mobility solutions, incl. agentic development and insights
Explore and apply AI technologies within e-mobility to enhance automation and improve decision-making, as well as investigate the integration potential into SAP systems
Bridge the gap between academic findings and industry: validate the applicability and test cutting-edge research methods in the field for our products.
Participate in interdisciplinary research activities with the PhD graduate team, supporting SAP’s research strategy
Be an active part of research mentoring programs and the research community at SAP
Collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders
What you bring:
Advanced university degree (PhD preferred, industrial PhD in the energy and mobility field preferred) in mathematics, computer science, information technology or a similar field
At least 3 years of work experience at the intersection between industry and academic research, including analytics, research, and data science roles
Academic track record (publications preferred) in the field of applied ML/AI, preferably related to uncertainty quantification in complex e-mobility systems
Experience developing AI models, including predictive modeling, machine learning and statistical modeling in the e-mobility field, experience addressing real-world problems like missing data imputation is a plus
Data science stack: Python (pandas, scikit-learn, pytorch, tensorflow, langgraph, langchain, pytorch lightning, seaborn, networkx, pyspark, statsmodels), Databricks (or similar), Hyperscalers (Azure, Google Cloud Platform, AWS), data lakes (Azure Data Lake, Hana Data Lake), Docker, Github, AI coding tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, cline)
Hands-on mindset and outstanding communication skills, especially in international teams
Fluency in English and French
