Job Overview:
The North Asia Sub Region Head of Security is accountable for decision making to ensure the physical safety and security of SAP employees, buildings and assets, often with a very high level of regulatory, compliance, financial, and brand impact and/or a very high complexity of work and life safety.
They are accountable for internal customer engagement on physical security awareness programs, knowledge management, quality assurance and organizational learning. They will develop and manage programs to transfer the relevant knowledge across organizational boundaries.
They will maintain the highest level of professionalism in all activities to represent the organization internally and externally, while serving as a trusted advisor and ambassador for SAP and affiliated companies.
Job Description:
- Provide overall physical security support and direction to multiple SAP business locations. Maintain a site-by-site overview of budgeting/spend, existing conditions, contract data, and location specific information.
- Conduct physical building security risk assessments, surveys, and physical penetration testing.
- Manage contract security services (Guarding/Watchman), to include the development/implementation of Building Security Operations Manual at all sites.
- Manage electronic security systems and vendors, to include electronic access control, badging, visitor management, security video, intrusion detection systems, and control center operations.
- Execute the planning, design, bid, construction and commissioning activities for multiple concurrent projects, and oversee all aspects of physical security related to these projects. Projects include new construction and renovation (driven by Global Real Estate & Facilities), or system replacements and/or additions.
- Assess and implement personnel protection programs, consisting of Travel Safety & Security, Events, Close Protection, Workplace Violence, and Kidnap Preparedness.
- Provide training and employee security awareness programs.
- Conduct internal investigations as needed.
- Oversee physical security incident reporting and resolution.
- Identity & Access Administration – coordinate with local stakeholders to process ID /Access badges in accordance with GPS standards
- Conduct presentation of physical security services when necessary.
- Partner/support SAP Health and Safety programs and ensure emergency responses are established.
- Report on physical security strategy and metrics (KPIs).
- Maintain close relationship with law enforcement and emergency responders
Competencies and Skills:
- Manage detailed programs related to the efficiency of the financial, operational and overall compliance of the organization. Improve the effectiveness of the organization and its processes.
- Possess deep understanding of their industry and identify and collect key market information/trends and apply to the organization/processes.
- Serve as mentor/coach/thought leader to the lines of business and to their Country/Area Manager direct reports.
- Accountable for successful and consistent delivery of multiple projects up and down the organization.
- Manage relationships with global, regional and local senior management plus outside service providers and business partners.
- Manager of processes and interfaces across organizational boundaries inside and outside of Global Physical Security (GPS) management that relate to area of responsibility (sub-region).
- Drive operational excellence and quality assurance by providing best practices, problem solving, and guidance/leadership for improvements related to complex matters within their area of responsibility.
- Area of responsibility would primarily include Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong, with candidate based out of Tokyo. However, security support coverage and operations may include other countries and locations across the Asia Pacific & Japan (APJ) region on an as required basis.
- Serve as liaison to executive management / provide reports / champion internal goals and manage KPI's.
- Responsible for hiring and development of talent for the future of the organization within their respective locations.
- Manage Guarding and Systems vendors to deliver services as required by GPS requirements.
- Ensure alignment with corporate procurement strategies and compliance standards, driving efficiency and fiscal discipline across all sourcing activities.
- Manage and optimize capital (CAPEX) and operational (OPEX) budgets within the area of responsibility to achieve business and financial objectives. Participate in RFP and strategic procurement processes to enable effective vendor selection, cost optimization, and long-term value creation.
- Ensure continuous audit readiness by serving as the primary point of contact for all audit-related matters. Collaborate closely with the Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) team and relevant departments to coordinate reviews and provide accurate, timely evidence in support of internal and external audit requirements.
Experience, Education, and Certifications:
- 10 years’ experience in physical security industry or equivalent with at least 5 years’ experience in a Corporate Security role, preferably in the Tech Industry.
- 3 years of direct experience in the majority of ”Job Description” and “Competencies and Skills” above.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred and/or adequate experience.
- Ability to pass background verification
- Native/Fluent level Japanese, comprehensive English language written and spoken.
- Candidate should be eligible to obtain a Security Clearance, if required.
