Job Description

We help the world run better
At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we'll bring out the best in you. We're builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what's next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You'll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What's in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.

What You'll Do:

The Data Architect plays a key role in designing and delivering modern data architectures that support analytics, AI, and business transformation initiatives. You will help position SAP BDC as the central enterprise data layer and ensure it integrates effectively with industry-standard platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, and hyperscaler data platforms.

In this role, you will support the development of data architecture designs, contribute to roadmap creation, and help evaluate technology choices, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with customer requirements. You will assist in applying architectural standards and governance models and support the reduction of technical debt across data and analytics landscapes.

You will collaborate closely with senior architects, SAP product teams, partners, and customer project teams (including customer senior management) throughout the delivery lifecycle—supporting solution design, validating integrations, assisting with issue analysis, and ensuring architectural consistency.

Through exceptional communication, documentation, and analytical skills, you will help customers adopt SAP BDC effectively, modernize their data platforms, and accelerate outcomes in analytics and AI programs.

What You Bring:

  • Exceptional understanding of modern data and analytics platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, Azure/AWS/GCP data services, streaming/event architectures).
  • Proficient knowledge of SAP data platforms including BDC, Datasphere, SAC, BW/4HANA, and HANA Cloud.

  • Experience designing data models, integration patterns, and analytical data pipelines.

  • Working knowledge of data governance fundamentals: lineage, metadata management, MDM, lifecycle management, and compliance considerations.

  • Ability to translate business needs into data architecture requirements and communicate them clearly to technical teams.

  • Exceptional problem-solving, documentation, stakeholder engagement, and storytelling skills.

  • Comfortable working in complex environments and supporting architectural discussions and trade-off decisions.

Expectations and Tasks:

1. Data Architecture Design & Solution Support

  • Contribute to the design of customer-specific data architectures using SAP BDC and complementary non-SAP platforms.
  • Support creation of architecture diagrams, data models, integration patterns, and supporting documentation.

  • Accountable for developing roadmaps aligned to analytics, AI, and cloud strategies.

  • Ensure solution components follow architectural standards and best practices.

2. Data Governance & Standards Implementation

  • Support implementation of data governance practices including quality checks, lifecycle management, and metadata standards.

  • Help enforce clean-core and extensibility guardrails for SAP and non-SAP data components.

  • Participate in architecture reviews, quality gates, and compliance checks.

3. Delivery Lifecycle Support & Issue Analysis

  • Support solution delivery teams with technical guidance on data integration, modeling, and platform configuration.

  • Assist in analyzing performance, data quality, and design issues during projects.

  • Work collaboratively with SAP colleagues, hyperscaler teams, and technology partners to ensure smooth delivery.

4. Customer Communication & Alignment

  • Prepare customer-facing materials and contribute to architecture presentations .

  • Help clarify requirements, translate business needs into technical specifications, and support stakeholder alignment.

  • Provide insights on data modernization opportunities that enhance analytics and AI use cases.

5. Platform Adoption, Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Promote usage of SAP BDC for data unification and analytics readiness.

  • Support modernization of BI, data engineering, and AI landscapes.

  • Contribute to reusable assets, templates, reference architectures, and best practices.

  • Stay current with evolving SAP and non-SAP data technologies and share insights with teams.

Education and Qualifications / Skills and Competencies:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or Business Administration (or equivalent experience).

Work Experience:

  • 10–15+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, analytics, or related technical roles.

  • Hands-on experience designing or supporting modern data platforms and analytical solutions.

  • Exposure to SAP analytics and data products (BDC, Datasphere, SAC, BW/4HANA, S/4HANA) and integration with non-SAP platforms.

  • Experience working in customer-facing roles, delivery projects, or large-scale transformation programs.
