Job Description

We help the world run better
At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we'll bring out the best in you. We're builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what's next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You'll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What's in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.

What you will build
As an Expert Application Developer, you are the technical authority and strategic driver for SAP CX Commerce Cloud. This role is about shaping solutions, driving cross-functional alignment, and ensuring successful customer outcomes. You will define the long-term technical strategy, bridge business requirements with technical feasibility.

You will navigate complex stakeholder landscapes—specific for internal roles like product, engineering, security, compliance teams to deliver compliant, cost-effective, and innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain robust RESTful APIs, ensuring strict compliance with IAM (Identity and Access Management) standards (OAuth 2.0, OIDC) to protect data security and access control. Design comprehensive contract testing strategies using industry-standard frameworks (e.g., PACT) to validate API agreements between services, integrating contract test cases into daily development workflows to identify and resolve integration issues early in the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Champion the evolution of contract testing frameworks, including designing clear contract specifications, developing reusable test components, and optimizing framework execution efficiency to support large-scale, complex project testing needs. Drive standardization of contract testing practices and ensure the framework adapts to evolving business and technical requirements (experience with frameworks such as PACT is preferred).
  • Ensure uncompromising code quality through the implementation of rigorous testing strategies, including unit, integration, and end-to-end (E2E) testing, aligned with Test-Driven Development (TDD) principles. Promote the standardized adoption of contract testing frameworks within the engineering team, providing guidance and support to team members on best practices for applying contract testing to development and testing workflows.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert (SME) for contract testing frameworks and cloud-native development, resolving complex technical issues related to framework implementation, system integration, and contract testing execution. Contribute to key architectural decisions that impact the scalability, reliability, and maintainability of our solutions, and mentor junior engineers to grow their technical skills in development and contract testing.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams—including product managers, DevOps engineers, global engineering teams, security, and compliance—to align development efforts and contract testing framework construction with business requirements and product roadmaps. Maintain and optimize existing CI/CD pipelines to seamlessly integrate contract testing capabilities, ensuring smooth, automated delivery of high-quality solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for contract testing processes, frameworks, and tools, staying abreast of industry trends and emerging best practices to elevate our technical capabilities. Advocate for innovation in contract testing and cloud-native development, proposing and implementing enhancements that improve efficiency, reduce technical debt, and enhance customer value.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline; 10+ years of professional software development experience in enterprise cloud environments, with a strong focus on contract testing framework design and development (experience in this area is highly preferred).
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and developing contract testing frameworks, including contract specification design, test case development, framework integration with cloud-native solutions, and optimization for large-scale environments. Familiarity with industry-standard contract testing tools (e.g., PACT, Spring Cloud Contract) is a plus.
  • Proven experience in maintaining and optimizing CI/CD pipelines to integrate contract testing capabilities, with the ability to streamline automated testing and delivery workflows. Extensive experience in pipeline construction is a strong plus.
  • Solid knowledge of microservices architecture, cloud-native development principles (including Kubernetes), and API design standards. Proficiency in database operations (relational and NoSQL) and messaging technologies relevant to supporting contract testing frameworks and enterprise cloud solutions.
  • Proven technical leadership experience, including mentoring engineers, driving contract testing framework initiatives, and making critical architectural decisions in global, cross-functional engineering environments.
  • Extensive experience working in Agile software development methodologies (Scrum, SAFe, or similar), with the ability to collaborate effectively in fast-paced, iterative environments.
  • Excellent English communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation), with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and document detailed architectures, contract testing framework specifications, and pipeline integration guidelines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, keen attention to detail, and a results-driven mindset, with a relentless focus on delivering high-quality, reliable solutions and contract testing frameworks that meet business needs.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels (technical and non-technical) without direct authority, drive alignment, and deliver consensus on technical decisions.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with SAP Commerce Cloud or similar e-commerce platforms.
  • Proved related work experience is a plus.
