We are seeking to appoint a Support Specialist, initially on a 12-month contract, to provide project support for the roll-out and embedding of the RSPB’s Land and Property Risk Management system.

As the successful applicant you will join the project team commissioned by the RSPB’s Land Management Risk Group (LMRG), to support the roll-out of the RSPB’s computer-based land and property Risk Register, its associated guidance documents, policies and codes of practice. ?You will also support the development and delivery of the required training programme for system users across the UK, e.g. nature reserve managers, rural surveyors, building surveyors and ecologists.

The RSPB manages 220 nature reserves covering 159,000 hectares. The management of our land, property and our wider landscape conservation work carries with it a number of risks and the need for compliance with a wide range of legal, contractual, financial and policy requirements.

The land and property risk management system and Risk Register is essential to ensure the continued delivery of high standards of risk mitigation and compliance across our nature reserves and land management activities throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. This role has two main elements – to support both the initial risk register roll-out and then on-going land and property risk management. For more detail on key deliverables and outputs of the role, please see the supporting information attached.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

• An ability to work across reserves, operational areas and country teams to build awareness of land management risk processes, ensure consistency of approach and embed best practice within the RSPB.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of users, their managers, specialists and leadership teams.
• Knowledge and experience of using risk management systems.
• Experience, awareness or understanding of the legal and regulatory frameworks for land and property management and the associated organisational risks.
• Experience of land management work within the conservation and environmental sector or other land-based industry.
• Experience of Project Management and influencing others by working with stakeholder groups at all levels.
• Previous experience in giving presentations and delivering user training courses.
• Familiarity with the use of Microsoft 365 and Microsoft PowerApps
• Ability to translate technical information into operational practice and have a pragmatic approach to solving issues and problems.
• Ability to travel occasionally across the UK

This is a Fixed-Term role for 12 months working 37.5 hours per week however part-time working will be considered. The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.

We are looking to conduct interviews on-line for this position on Friday 8th December 2023, or shortly thereafter. For further information please contact philip.bolam@rspb.org.uk

As part of this application process you will be asked to submit a CV and complete an application form including evidence on how you meet the skills, knowledge, and experience listed above.
