Livestock Person x3 (Ouse Washes, Cambridgeshire)
Job Description
Do you have a passion to work with beef cattle on the largest area of wetland grassland in the country? We are looking for up to 3 stock people to work as part of a 6-person team responsible for the management of 2000 beef cattle on the Ouse Washes on a 6-month contract.
The main duties will include daily shepherding, cattle movements, routine veterinary treatments, treating ailments, assisting with record-keeping, and maintaining infrastructure.
What we need from you;
Essential skills, knowledge & experience:
- Some experience of working with cattle (but this will be an excellent opportunity to gain further knowledge of how a large scale cattle grazing operation functions);
- Good basic knowledge of all aspects of cattle husbandry;
- Knowledge of essential record keeping requirements;
- Ability to work as part of a team; and
- Able to occasionally work alone with minimal supervision.
Desirable skills, knowledge & experience:
- Sit astride ATV and Off Road 4x4 certificates;
- Good understanding of agricultural and conservation land management;
- Relevant ecological knowledge relating to grazing as a management tool;
- Proficient and competent in a range of land management tasks related to the grazing operation
- Problem solving skills.
Please note that tractor driving experience is not essential, and training will be provided by senior staff in all aspects of cattle management and welfare.
