What's the role about?

This role forms part of a team of GIS analysts in our Conservation Data Department, providing a GIS analysis and mobile data collection service. In this role, you will support hundreds of staff across the RSPB, helping maximise the conservation impact of our spatial data.

You will work closely with colleagues to identify their GIS requirements. Using the suite of ESRI mapping products, you will analyse spatial data to inform complex land management and casework decisions. You will also use ESRI software to create and manage mobile apps allowing in-field data collection for key business processes, ensuring high data quality and saving staff time across our nature reserve network. You will help curate the conservation data held by RSPB, making sure that our data are up-to-date, accessible, well documented, and appropriately licensed. You will support day-to-day use of our core systems, including our in-house GIS and our estate management system. Your outputs will include visually engaging, informative maps and dashboards for a range of audiences, ensuring that RSPB is influential when presenting our case and telling our stories.

GIS is a rapidly evolving field. You must have an interest in developing your skills, and staying current with key advances, such as new tools, techniques, and datasets. We are keen for you to develop the skills to take on advanced spatial analysis, including remote sensing and machine learning applications.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Knowledge of how to use mapping software, such as ArcGIS.
  • Knowledge of GIS, data management and information management good practice.
  • The ability to become proficient with all aspects of GIS software, including scripting languages such as Python and SQL.
  • Logical, methodical, patient, and friendly with excellent attention to detail.

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Experience using ESRI mapping products, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS online, Survey123, Field Maps, and Quick Capture.
