Community Fundraising Manager - Scotland (Part-Time)
3–4 days/week at home
Fully flexible hours
Dog friendly
Job Description
RSPB Scotland is part of the RSPB, Europe's largest nature conservation charity, with over 1 million members. We work to achieve a better world for nature and people, where biodiversity loss has halted, and human actions ensure the sustainable management of the planet’s natural resources. RSPB Scotland manages 80 nature reserves from Shetland in the north to the Mull of Galloway in the south. We collaborate with other organisations to deliver various projects and activities on and off our nature reserves.
The Community Fundraising Manager will be responsible for community and volunteer fundraising across Scotland and play a key role in building community support for nature. They will manage a team of three Community Fundraisers across Scotland. This 0.6 FTE permanent role can be organised flexibly to suit the candidate. It is a hybrid office/home based role with the office base in our Edinburgh or Glasgow office.
What's the role about?
The RSPB community fundraising team raises over £1 million nationally through our network of volunteers selling our UK wildlife pin badges. The team also works with members of the public wishing to raise funds for the RSPB, and is currently developing a new ‘in Aid of’ fundraising offer to enthuse more people to act for nature.
As the team manager, you will be developing the Scotland community fundraising offer to grow this income stream to its full potential. Your community fundraiser team will manage over 250 volunteers and work with RSPB staff across many reserves in Scotland to raise funds and engage with the local community. You will manage, support and guide them to ensure fundraising opportunities are maximised, targets are on track, and the RSPB abides by fundraising regulations.
Responsibilities of the manager will include:
• Supporting the team to liaise with RSPB Local Groups to grow fundraising for nature.
• Providing an excellent service to anyone who wishes to fundraise for the RSPB.
• Maximising Community Fundraising activities on reserves through pin badge sales and other opportunities.
• Championing volunteering and volunteer fundraising contributions across the organisation.
• Ensuring that all activities are compliant with Fundraising Regulator requirements.
What we need from you
Essential skills:
- Understanding of relevant Institute of Fundraising, Fundraising Regulator and Charities Act regulations and IOF Codes/guidelines relating to volunteer fundraising and ‘in Aid of’ fundraising.
- Communicating effectively with a wide range of audiences verbally, in writing and face to face. Persuasive communication skills to bring supporters to our cause.
- Provides direction, energy and capability to lead and manage Community Fundraisers and volunteer fundraisers from different backgrounds.
- Numerate, in order to analyse data, identify trends and make recommendations for change.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Awareness of digital fundraising techniques and platforms and competent user and analyser of CRM database and digital fundraising platforms such as JustGiving.
- Able to identify, escalate and implement directions swiftly to volunteers and staff in the event of breaches of compliance that could bring RSPB into disrepute (eg pin badge box theft, inappropriate behaviour of volunteer).
- Recruitment, selection and management of volunteers and staff.
- Managing an income and expenditure budget, being able to monitor successes and discrepancies and provide accurate forecasts.
