You will support an integrated programme and project management team, joining a team of project professionals, including volunteers, who deliver organisational wide people and business change across the RSPB. The work will be fast paced, far reaching and innovative, covering all elements of our operations.

What's the role about?

As part of the financial planning and reporting team you will support the finance business partners and be responsible for delivering business analysis support and insight (e.g. data analysis, financial analysis, process mapping, etc.) to projects and programmes across the UK that will support the RSPB 2030 strategy.

Key activities will include:

• Supporting the RSPB Finance and Transformation team in delivering business analysis to support key finance-centric projects and programmes. This includes, but is not limited to:
• Data analysis
• Process mapping and review
• Financial analysis
• Working with stakeholders from across the RSPB, you’ll manage and maintain their support throughout your business analysis
• Communicating and engaging with colleagues and stakeholders at a variety of levels. You will be confident in articulating your business analysis work in a number of ways and will be able to confidently engage Senior Management to drive and manage positive change
• Supporting the project and programme managers in developing robust business cases

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

1. Educated to degree level and/or have sufficient experience to be able to carry out the duties to a high level.
2. Knowledge of financial management and processes (including double-entry accounts).
3. Advanced spreadsheet skills.
4. Excellent numerical skills.
5. Ability to evaluate incomplete and complex financial information, to develop and consider a range of possible options and make a judgement as to the recommended course of action.

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:


1. Ability to act as a critical-friend to board level and senior managers balancing challenge and support
2. Ability to convey appropriate financial messages to various audiences.
3. Proven ability to understand business issues and identify interventions to improve business performance.
4. Proven experience of identifying key metrics that contribute to organisational performance and informing managers of such in a manner that facilitates rapid management response.
5. Proven experience of planning, co-ordinating, and delivering projects that contribute towards improved profitability / organisational efficiency.
6. Management accounting experience.

This is a Fixed Term (2 years), Full-Time role for 37.5 hours per week. Whilst the role is offered full time we are open to applications from anyone able to work at least 30 hours per week.

The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.
