Position Summary:
As a Component Design Engineer for gas turbine inlets, nacelles, installations and exhaust (INIE), you will be part of the global Structures & Controls Engineering, Technology & Safety organization. You will develop complex engineering solutions that satisfy cutting-edge aerospace functional and physical requirements and exhibit robustness for manufacturing capability. Within your assigned propulsion system program, you’ll be responsible for developing, assessing, and delivering INIE hardware and systems that push the envelope with performance, life, and efficiency.

What you will be doing

  • Develop new component designs for high-performance gas turbine engine INIE components and systems, which include creating design concepts, optimizing concepts to a final definition, preparing technical presentations and documents, performing dimensional analyses, supporting drawing creation and release, delivering hardware for validation, and release of hardware to production.
  • Perform stress and dynamic analyses for INIE components to verify suitability for new engine applications and extend performance of existing engines.

  • Present and defend design solutions and technical work to program leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Provides technical direction, coaching, and guidance to less experienced design engineers.
  • Support the supply chain in procuring hardware including review of supplier documentation, assessment of non-conforming hardware, and review of supplier change proposals.
  • Support manufacturing, assembly, service, and aftermarket issues promptly as they arise to keep production on target and the fleet in operation
  • Perform investigations of in-service and/or development hardware issues including failure analysis, root cause / corrective action (RCCA), reporting, and documentation. Share findings with the global turbomachinery team in accordance with export control regulations.
  • Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, with 2+ years of experience, OR;
    • Master’s degree in Engineering OR;
    • JD/PhD in Engineering
    • To be considered for this role, you must be a US Citizen

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated experience in the design, analysis, and/or verification of gas turbine engine or aerospace components and/or systems.
    • Experience designing rigid tubing, electrical harnesses and power cables, formed and fabricated sheet metal components, and composite fiber components.
    • Coaching / Mentoring others
    • Experience with component design and analysis methods, tools, and practices, including CAD (NX Unigraphics or equivalent), Teamcenter, Systems Engineering tools, and stress analysis programs such as ANSYS.
    • Experience in dimensional tolerance stack-ups and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
    • Demonstrated experience in progressing new designs and design modifications through a gated design review process.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, and technical writing skills.
