Prolific • Remote, UK

Senior Product Analyst

Job Description

At a Glance

Us: Fast growing startup of 90+ people. Remote team, mainly based in the UK. YC alumni (summer 2019). Our mission is to revolutionise how the world learns about people, so people can revolutionise the world.🚀

The Role

As one of the first embedded Product Analysts at Prolific, you’ll be a bridge between the Data and Product teams: working closely with product managers, designers, and user researchers to inform product development, optimize performance, and measure the impact of new initiatives using data. You'll be a key member of the Incubator team, a cross-functional team responsible for achieving product market fit in new markets. Our current focus is on the AI-teaching market, specifically language models. We already have significant traction in this market, but there is considerably more work to be done!

As the Incubator team’s embedded product analyst, you’ll design AB tests, identify areas for product improvement and help us understand customer behaviour in new markets. You'll also be an integral part of a smart and motivated team, working at the cutting edge of Prolific’s technology.

What you'll be doing

  • You’ll be responsible for painting a high definition picture of AI-customer behaviour through data. You’ll design click-tracking, data models and dashboards to help us understand and better serve our newest segment of customers. Working closely with your team to implement and assess the success of new product features.
  • Because the Incubator team works closely with our biggest and most exciting customers, your day-to-day work will be very varied. Some days you’ll be analysing competitor’s websites to understand how we should price our AI product, other days you’ll analysing the retention of high-economic-status participants who’ve been recruited onto our platform for a special AI study. Your voice will be a crucial one in shaping the strategy of the team, and you’ll need to build trust and context in order to be an effective guide.
  • Of course you’ll also react to the day-to-day data needs of your team with dashboards, reports and ad-hoc queries. You’ll mostly be leveraging the upper half of our data tech stack for your work. This means working mostly with cleaned and modelled data, where a lot of the business logic and testing has already been taken care of. That said, you’ll sometimes need to design new data models in DBT in order to surface newly collected behavioural data.
  • In addition to being a member of the Incubator, you’ll also be a member of Prolific’s Embedded Analytic’s Community of Practice. This group will provide an opportunity for mentorship, and to mentor others, and will meet weekly to share learnings, methodologies and ensure consistent technical upskilling.
  • You’ll be responsible for fostering a data-driven culture within your home team. Coaching your colleagues on how best to use data to guide decision making, and holding them to account when it comes to measuring success.
  • You’ll also be the ‘conduit’ between your team and other data teams in the business. Knowing how and when to ask for ‘additional capacity’, then serving as the point person when other data-prolificos join the project to help.

What you’ll bring

  • A passion for using data to guide product design and a hunger for solving problems, even if by unconventional means.
  • Considerable experience writing analytic SQL, including window-functions, CTEs, and JOINs. You have dabbled (at least) with dbt, and have a working knowledge of python.
  • Great analytical skills, with a track record of digesting complex data, identifying trends, and drawing meaningful insights.
  • Competency in common stats for product analytics and AB tests: i.e. you can run a sample size calculation, perform unbiased allocation to groups, choose the right test for the design, identify potential confounding factors.
  • Strong visual communication skills, with the ability to effectively share data-driven insights and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders.

Even better if you have

  • Knowledge of a modern generative AI models and how they’re taught.
  • Experience analysing the behavioural data generated by customer’s API use.
  • Experience with online recruitment and survey platforms as well as a knowledge of the current online research landscape.
