Your mission

​At Papercup we’re on a mission to make the world’s videos watchable in any language. We have invested in developing one of the best synthetic voice systems in the industry, and have generated hundreds of millions of views across YouTube, Facebook and FAST platforms for creators, media and news organisations.

In spring 2022 we raised $20 million Series A, to help us grow our team and make strides towards our mission. We are going through a rapid growth phases as demand for AI generated content across the industry has been increasing rapidly. Our next challenges are scaling our platform across more languages, more content types and more platforms. In simple terms, scaling.

It is an exciting time joining a growing team of driven, curious and passionate people. Right now, we’re hiring an Engineering Manager for our team. You will be working in a team focusing on our core initiatives such as enabled most of efficient way to dub content in many languages, developing PaaS solution for creators and closely working with the Machine Learning team to commercialise the latest research and developments in AI both from our team and open source community

Your profile

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join our growing team. In this role, you will manage a diverse group of engineers from various disciplines and levels, collaborate closely with product managers, and ensure efficient prioritization of work. Your expertise in managing complex projects, fostering collaboration, and driving innovation will be key to our success.

You have previously been a hands-on software developer, but these days get your kicks from software architecture and organisation design, debugging people and processes, and delivering through others.

What we look for form you:

  • Experience: 3+ years in software engineering, 1+ year in leadership/management, preferably in a fast-paced start-up environment.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of software development principles, with experience in TypeScript/Go/Python and modern cloud environments such as AWS/GCP/Azure.
  • Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage complex engineering projects and deliver high-quality results within deadlines.
  • People Management: Proven experience leading cross-functional engineering teams, including recruiting, mentoring, and developing talent.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from different disciplines and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Adaptability and Initiative: Thrives in a dynamic start-up environment, adapts to changing priorities, and takes initiative to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Passion for AI and Localization: Genuine interest in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and technology for language barriers and global accessibility to content.
