Risk Operations Manager
Remote-first
Fully flexible hours
Job Description
What do we do?
Paddle offers SaaS companies a completely different approach to their payments infrastructure. Instead of assembling and maintaining a complex stack of payments-related apps and services, we’re a Merchant of Record for our customers. That means we take away 100% of the pain of payments fragmentation. It’s faster, safer, cheaper, and, above all, way better.
We’re backed by investors including KKR, FTV Capital, Kindred, Notion, and 83North and serve over 3000 software sellers in 245 territories globally.
The Role:
As a Risk Operations Manager you will report into the VP Risk & Compliance and will work within the risk team to help execute Paddle’s Risk Strategy. Specifically you will take the lead in a team of analysts tasked with making sure our critical risk and compliance processes are as robust and efficient as possible. Your focus will be on ensuring risk and compliance protects Paddle while contributing to a valuable customer experience. You will be a key contributor to delivering change in our risk management capabilities, through process building and improvement, analytics and insight generation, and developing our risk technology strategy.
At Paddle, we think of Risk as an internal ‘Product’ (comprising our tools and processes), which needs to be designed, developed, maintained and evolved with the business. In this sense, the Risk Operations leader is akin to a product manager.
This position requires someone who is passionate about FinTech / RegTech and building an innovative yet robust risk capability. The candidate must be super-agile and able to work independently, take the lead on complex issues and projects, think creatively in solving complex problems, have a “can do” attitude, with strong experience in the FinTech / payments sector.
What you'll do:
- Work with the VP Risk & Compliance and other senior stakeholders in the business to create and refine a change programme for risk and compliance focused on process improvement and technological enablement;
- Troubleshoot and make tactical and strategic fixes to existing processes;
- Design, create and implement new processes;
- Contribute to the development, acquisition, integration and optimisation of the use of risk tools and products
- Identify opportunities for creating additional insight on the effectiveness of our processes and their outputs by analysing, manipulating and visualising data;
- Be a key contact for the risk and compliance team, product managers and other business stakeholders in making sure risk and compliance delivers for the business and our customers;
- Contribute to the creation and reporting of important MI on risk exposures and risk process effectiveness including the creating and monitoring of Risk and Compliance KPIs; and
- Contribute to the development of the team, coaching and development of more junior operations analysts.
We'd love to hear from you if you:
- Have a successful track record in a relevant role at a payments, FinTech, banking or financial services organisation;
- Are commercially minded and love solving complex problems with data, analysis and a structured, logical approach;
- Are comfortable creating structure out of chaos, in designing processes and frameworks;
- Put a high value on, speed, accuracy and completeness of work;
- Have strong interpersonal, influencing skills with the ability to communicate clearly, sensitively and effectively with stakeholders;
- Have proven technical abilities in risk product/process design, integration, implementation, testing.
- Have strong data analysis and reporting skills with the ability to manipulate data in Excel and SQL. You’re familiar with BI and data visualisation tools like Sisense (formerly Periscope), Looker or Tableau, and know how to best present data for maximum effect; and
- You have a proven ability to learn and adapt to new environments, people, processes and procedures.

What employees are saying
"Paddle have always offered a flexible working from home policy, and with the impact of COVID-19, they have strengthened their approach to this culture. We have an office available if we want to work around the team, or we can work from home whenever we like. It's a great balance! The parental leave is also awesome, we're super dog friendly and have some excellent benefits. I never feel pressured to work particular hours or stress that I have to be in an office."
