Accounts Assistant
Financial health can have a huge impact on our success, and the Accounts Assistant plays a critical role in this. Through accurate and thorough financial management, we can accurately manage cash flow and tax deadlines, and correctly understand how we are performing.
This role will report into the Operations Director, and you’ll collaborate with our external accountants on certain projects. You’ll take ownership for bank reconciliations, accounts payable and receivables management, and payroll. To succeed in this role you’ll need to be thorough, dependable, be able to deliver to tight reporting deadlines and you’ll take pride in your work having a high degree of accuracy.
Our purpose is to inspire the world to forecast correctly and empower it to tackle risk, powered by our deep learning technology and its unique ability to forecast the outcomes of construction projects. We’re on a mission to change how construction projects are planned, managed and executed, and in the process unlock a trillion dollars of new project value for the world through our data-driven forecasting.
We’re lucky to work on some of the largest infrastructure projects in the world, which gives us both an opportunity and a privilege to make a significant impact on the world around us, and what it will look like in the future, every day.
You’ll be joining a world class and well funded team, backed by top investors including GV (formerly known as Google Ventures) that all believe in the future we are creating. We’ve been on a tremendous growth trajectory for the last six years, and following our latest investment round we’ve got very ambitious growth plans for 2024 and beyond.
About the role
- In this role you’ll be responsible for posting and reconciling invoices accurately, processing payments, and running bank/credit card reconciliations in Xero.
- You’ll maintain organised and complete accounting records, with the support of the Operations Director and our external accountants.
- You’ll work with our Revenue Operations Lead to send client invoices and follow up with clients with overdue accounts.
- You’ll manage employee expenses, payroll and contractor payments.
- You’ll work with our external accountants to highlight financial insights and ensure that our financial model is kept up to date and accurate.
- You’ll assist our external accountants with HMRC filings such as VAT returns and PAYE, R&D tax rebates and year-end accounts.
- You’ll take on occasional ad-hoc finance requests from the team.
- We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship for this role.
About you
- At least 1 years’ experience in an Accounts Payable or similar role, or a recent accounting graduate.
- Good working knowledge of Excel and Xero.
- Comfortable with data, highly analytical and rigorous, and numerically minded.
- Able to correctly prioritise work in order to meet tight month-end deadlines and other deadlines.
- Able to handle sensitive, confidential information.
- A strong eye for detail, demonstrated by mentioning the word ‘crane’ in our application form
- We’d love for you to learn and grow within nPlan. We’re looking for someone who can bring a fresh perspective, will highlight and implement opportunities to improve the finance function, and is eager to grow as nPlan grows.
Nice-to-haves
- Studying towards or have achieved an accounting qualification e.g. CIMA/ACCA or equivalent.
- Experience of using Dext and Google Sheets.
What your typical work week will be like
- You will sit in our very friendly and collaborative Operations team - we all perform different functions, but we keep each other updated through meetings and will always do what we can to support each other.
- You’ll use Slack and email for the bulk of your communication, and will likely use our financial tools (Xero, bank accounts, Dext) on a daily basis to keep up to date with transactions and reconciliations.
- You’ll work closely with our Operations Director each week and our external accountants a couple of times a month, but you’ll also get to know all teams in nPlan as you begin to explore what financial insights matter to them.
- This role is part-time (2 days per week), but we are open to you having flexibility in how you work these days so long as you can meet financial deadlines. For example, you could choose to work different days each week, or work 4 half-days per week.
What working at nPlan will be like
- We are still a relatively small team so there is plenty of opportunity for a high degree of ownership over different areas of the product, and you will be directly exposed to all areas of the business.
- Your voice will always be heard. What you do or say counts, not who you are or where you're from.
- We have three core values that underlie everything we do: Learn from Everything, Be Radically Truthful, and Aim High, Run Fast. These enable us to create a collaborative, inclusive environment where we can move effectively and efficiently to implement the best solutions.
- We are a cross-disciplinary team, and come from all backgrounds and countries.
- Fantastic benefits package for Health & Wellbeing, Learning & Development, family leave, weekly team meals and more.
- We are committed to addressing the diversity problem in the tech industry, and that starts with making sure we have a diverse team where everyone feels at home and can contribute as an equal.
- Having time to yourself and a private life is important. We offer a very flexible work environment and a generous holiday policy.
We are working hard to create a workplace that is inclusive to everyone, no matter their background, or where they are in life. We believe that only a truly diverse place can create great products that serve a wide audience and improve the world.
We believe in equality of opportunities and that's why we make sure that these ideas are reflected in our values, and that we really apply these in all aspects of our company culture.
If you have any needs for any adjustments during our interview process, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate them.
