Job Description
BUSINESS FUNCTION: Train Presentation
GRADE: Train Presentation Supervisor Shifts
SALARY: £29.450 per annum
ROLE TYPE: On Site
HOURS: 35 per week
Ready to lead from the front and keep our trains looking their best?
If you're someone who thrives on supporting others, motivating teams, and making things happen behind the scenes, this could be just the ticket. We’re looking for a hands-on leader to supervise our Train Presentation teams across multiple sites—delivering spotless, well-presented trains that our customers can rely on and feel proud to travel in.
This isn’t just about cleaning—it’s about creating the best possible on-board environment, developing your team, and playing a key part in keeping the North moving.
Can you see yourself:
- Leading the Way: Motivating and organising teams across multiple locations to deliver a consistent and high-quality train presentation service.
- Supporting Your People: Acting as the first line of support for your team, ensuring they’re trained, resourced, and confident in delivering a safe and clean railway.
- Keeping Standards High: Conducting audits, inspections, and site visits to make sure standards are met, safety is maintained, and teams are focused on the right outcomes.
- Driving Improvement: Coaching and encouraging your team towards self-management, continuous development, and delivering results they can be proud of.
- Working Flexibly: Supporting teams across our North East depots, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and bank holidays—whatever it takes to get the job done.
Are you:
- An Experienced Team Leader? You’ve led small teams before and know how to bring out the best in people—especially in fast-paced, operational environments.
- Tech-Savvy? You’re confident using digital tools and tech, and can support others in developing these skills too.
- Organised & Reliable? You can juggle multiple tasks, stay calm under pressure, and make sure nothing gets missed.
- A Strong Communicator? You’re confident engaging with people at all levels and can build positive relationships across sites.
- Health & Safety Aware? You’ve got some knowledge of COSHH and general safety practices—or you’re willing to learn.
- Able to Travel? You’ll need a full, clean driving licence to get to sites across the region when required.
Please note this role is safety critical and is subject to Rail Safety & Standards Board (RSSB) regulations. You MUST meet the following criteria for this position, or your application will be automatically rejected:
- Currently live within a 45-minute car journey from the TrainCare Centre you work from.
- Be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.
- Pass the safety critical medical assessment, including drugs and alcohol screening.
- Have no defective colour vision.

Why Northern?
We’re more than just a train operator. We’re the heartbeat of the North - connecting communities, creating opportunities, and driving sustainable growth. With 2,500 trains running daily, we’re on a mission to improve rail travel and enhance the customer experience while protecting the environment.
Back in 1825, the first passenger train set off in the North of England, after which rail quickly spread across the globe - and this year, we’re celebrating 200 years of the modern railway. As we look back on the historic events that led us here, we also look towards the future as we move into the era of Great British Rail. Join us at this pivotal moment in rail history and play your part in our journey.
A place for everyone
The best journeys happen when everyone feels welcome on board.
At Northern, we don’t just move people from A to B - we’re building a team where everyone feels they belong. Our talent team can make reasonable adjustments to the process if that’s something you need. We're also a Level 2 Disability Confident employer, so if you meet the minimum criteria for the role, we’ll always offer an interview.
We automate parts of our screening process to remove any unconscious bias and to make sure every application is treated fairly. All successful offers will be subject to a medical assessment.
No matter your background, experience, or whether you call it a bap, barm, or cob… there’s a place for you here in the railway.
