Senior Surveyor (Building)

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 +10% performance bonus, + regional allowance

Working location: Nationwide, Homebased

Employment type: full time, permanent

Job summary:

As a Senior Surveyor, you will play a key role in managing risk across NHBC’s warranty products and building control services, ensuring projects meet all customer, statutory, and technical requirements. Acting as a Registered Building Inspector Class Registered no less than 2F/ Class 3 required.

This is a senior-level role that demands technical excellence, proactive risk management, and strong collaboration to ensure the successful delivery of safe, high-quality developments.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll assess high-risk applications, supervise and support less experienced inspectors, and advise on critical technical elements throughout the construction lifecycle. Working closely with developers, builders, and their professional teams from design to completion, you will ensure that proposals comply with NHBC Standards, Building Regulations, and national requirements.

  • You’ll be responsible for restricted activities on complex residential developments - typically over 11 metres in height, and provide expert guidance on both building control and warranty matters.
  • Ensure compliance with NHBC and HSE requirements for personal safety and that of others.
  • Manage the Building Regulation and Warranty aspects by supporting inspection staff with the provision of expert advice, inspection of high risk/complex elements or features of building work, the identification / communication of key inspection stages and review of progress.
  • Surveying and assessing buildings and proposals for suitability for Buildmark Conversions cover, including the provision of advice, preparation of reports and offers / refusals of insurance cover.
  • Understanding and experience of forensic investigations of buildings, defect identification and repair.

What we’re looking for

  • Good communication skills both verbal and written with appropriate interpersonal and presentational skills.
  • Experience in training and mentoring.
  • Experience of warranty risk management.
  • Extensive experience in the construction industry with relevant experience in Building Control.
  • Experience of plan appraisal of residential developments and associated non-residential uses.
  • Provide guidance to builders, their consultants and NHBC on Building Regulation & NHBC Standards.
  • Proactively resolve customer complaints & manage conflict and disagreement by effective and appropriate escalation.
  • Chartered membership of an appropriate professional institution.
  • Relevant accredited HND/HNC qualification or substantial industry experience.
  • Required to be a Registered Building Inspector, minimum of 2F and 3 BSR Class.
