- Location: Stratford-upon-Avon Head Office
- Start date: 22nd June 2026

What you’ll be working on
At NFU Mutual, we’re more than just an insurance company - we’re a mutual, owned by our members and driven by doing what’s right for our customers and communities. That purpose shapes everything we do, including how we manage risk, protect our organisation, and continuously improve. Our Internal Audit team plays a key role in upholding these standards, helping ensure we operate with integrity, transparency and long term‑ sustainability.
Our Group Internal Audit Department plays a vital role in protecting the organisation’s assets, reputation and long term sustainability. We do this by assessing whether key risks have been identified, managed and controlled. But our work goes far beyond assurance - we partner with teams across the business to offer insights, share best practice, and help drive meaningful improvements.
As an Internal Audit intern, you’ll gain hands on experience from day 1. You’ll work on live audit assignments, contribute to our Departmental Objectives, and develop a strong understanding of how effective risk management, governance and controls support a thriving organisation. Working closely with colleagues, you’ll assess how different business areas operate, help identify opportunities for improvement, and provide valuable recommendations to support their improvement.
Throughout the programme, you'll have the opportunity to build relationships with stakeholders across the organisation, strengthening your communication, analytical and critical thinking skills. With support from your manager and a dedicated buddy, you’ll feel guided, included and empowered as you develop.
This internship also gives you high visibility across NFU Mutual — offering a unique window into our core operations and how key decisions are made. By the end of your placement, you’ll have played an active role in delivering meaningful audit work that contributes to our business integrity and success. You’ll also have the chance to present your learning to members of our senior leadership team, showcasing the impact you’ve made.
How we’ll support you
You’ll be supported closely throughout your internship, both within Group Internal Audit and as part of our wider Internship Programme:
In your first week, you’ll spend dedicated time in the office with your Manager getting to know NFU Mutual, the insurance industry and the regulatory landscape we operate in. You’ll complete corporate induction learning, receive systems training and agree clear placement objectives, including your end-of-programme presentation brief.
Throughout the 8 weeks, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals who regularly engage with senior leaders across the organisation. You’ll see first-hand how we influence, advise and challenge at all levels of the business.
Alongside your team experience, our Early Careers team will support your wider development. You’ll attend networking events with fellow interns, take part in a presentation skills session to help you prepare for your final showcase, and benefit from structured feedback conversations to help you reflect and grow.
We’ll trust you with real responsibility, but you won’t be left to figure things out alone. You’ll receive guidance, stretch opportunities and regular feedback, while also being encouraged to manage your time effectively and take ownership of your work.
By the end of the programme, you’ll deliver a final presentation on your project and leave with tangible experience, stronger commercial awareness and greater confidence in your own capability.
Application Process
Our application process is designed to be straightforward and focused on your potential. It includes an online assessment, a pre-recorded video interview and a virtual, skills-based interview with members of the team. We’re interested in how you think, communicate and approach problems rather than whether you’ve done this before.
If you successfully complete the internship, you may have the opportunity to be fast-tracked through future graduate programme selection processes, subject to availability and eligibility at the time.
Please note that you must have the right to work in the UK for the full duration of the internship, as we’re unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role.
This vacancy may close early depending on application volumes, so we’d encourage you to apply as soon as you feel ready.
About you
You thrive in an environment where no two days look the same. Ideally you’re in your penultimate year of undergraduate study and on track for a minimum 2:1 honours degree (any discipline welcome).
You’ll be balancing multiple priorities all while maintaining a curious, questioning mindset. Whether you're diving into unfamiliar business processes, working through complex information, or collaborating with colleagues across the organisation, you’ll be encouraged to take ownership, think proactively, and seek out insights that add real value.
Success in this role comes from your ability to stay organised, adapt quickly, and remain open‑minded as you explore how different parts of the business operate. You’re comfortable working with a variety of people, developing your analytical skills, and asking thoughtful questions that help strengthen governance, controls, and continuous improvement across the organisation.
We’re particularly looking for:
- Strong communication skills – because you’ll be working with different teams and stakeholders, explaining complex ideas clearly and contributing to discussions.
- Commercial thinking – you’ll need to understand how business decisions connect with business growth and customer outcomes.
- Motivation and being proactive - You bring enthusiasm and commitment to achieving high quality outcomes, staying motivated and focused even when working independently.
- Relationship building and interpersonal skills - You build strong, trusted relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, creating open communication channels that support effective collaboration.
- Continuous improvement and a learning mindset – you’re curious, reflective and committed to developing your skills, always seeking opportunities to improve the way you work.
- Sound judgment, logical thinking and a solutions focused approach – you analyse information effectively, make well-reasoned decisions and naturally look for practical, positive solutions to challenges.
If you’re motivated, thoughtful and ready to challenge yourself in a professional environment where your contribution genuinely matters, we’d love to hear from you.
