Job Description
Finance Summer Internship Programme
- A paid, full-time 8-week summer internship with a trusted, people-focused UK insurer
- Spend your summer working on real financial planning and performance activity that directly shapes business decisions
- Location: Stratford upon Avon with hybrid working available
- Start date: 22nd June 2026
- Entry Requirements: You’ll be in your penultimate year of undergraduate study and on track for a minimum 2:1honours degree in a subject with a strong numerical or analytical focus.
- Salary: £24,037 pro-rata
What you'll be working on
Finance might make you think of spreadsheets and reports, and yes, there are numbers, but at NFU Mutual, Finance is about far more than that. It’s about insight, influence and shaping the future direction of the business.
Our Finance function plays a critical role in commercial and strategic decision-making, business performance and long-term planning. We don’t just report on the numbers — we help the business understand what they mean and what to do next.
During your 8-week internship, you’ll gain exposure across Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and the wider Finance community. You’ll see how we:
- Partner with General Insurance and Financial Services teams to support performance and decision-making
- Support divisional areas such as HR and IT through business partnering
- Contribute to strategic planning and performance reporting for senior leadership, including Board and Executive level
- Use finance technology and evolving tools, including emerging AI use cases, to improve reporting and insight
- Support change initiatives and transformation activity across the organisation
You’ll be joining during our Medium-Term Planning (MTP) cycle - one of the most commercially significant and fast-paced periods in the Finance calendar that sets the budget for the next three years. That means meaningful, tangible work from the outset.
Across the 8 weeks, you’ll experience a balance of exposure and ownership. You won’t just observe meetings — you’ll contribute. You might support financial modelling, analyse performance trends, assist with reporting cycles, explore data flows and systems improvements, or help prepare insight that informs business decisions.
By the end of the programme, you’ll have delivered a tangible piece of work you can genuinely talk about in future interviews — something you’ve owned, developed and refined through feedback.
How we'll support you
You’ll be supported closely throughout your internship, both within Finance and as part of our wider Internship Programme.
In your first week, you’ll spend dedicated time in the office with your Placement Manager getting to know NFU Mutual, our Finance function and the role we play in shaping commercial outcomes. You’ll complete corporate induction learning, receive systems training and agree clear placement objectives, including your end-of-programme presentation brief.
Throughout the 8 weeks, you’ll work alongside experienced Finance professionals who regularly partner with senior stakeholders across the organisation. You’ll see first-hand how we influence, challenge and support business decisions at all levels.
You’ll also be paired with a Finance Graduate buddy who can share their experience of joining the organisation and transitioning from intern to graduate.
Alongside your team experience, our Early Careers team will support your wider development. You’ll attend networking events with fellow interns, take part in a presentation skills session to help you prepare for your final showcase, and benefit from structured feedback conversations to help you reflect and grow.
We’ll trust you with real responsibility, but you won’t be left to figure things out alone. You’ll receive guidance, stretch opportunities and regular feedback, while being encouraged to manage your time effectively and take ownership of your work.
By the end of the programme, you’ll deliver a final presentation on your project and leave with tangible experience, stronger commercial awareness and greater confidence in your own capability.
Application Process
Our application process is designed to be straightforward and focused on your potential. It includes an online assessment, a pre-recorded video interview and a virtual, skills-based interview with members of the team. We’re interested in how you think, communicate and approach problems rather than whether you’ve done this before.
If you successfully complete the internship, you may have the opportunity to be fast-tracked through future graduate programme selection processes, subject to availability and eligibility at the time.
Please note that you must have the right to work in the UK for the full duration of the internship, as we’re unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role.
This vacancy may close early depending on application volumes, so we’d encourage you to apply as soon as you feel ready.
About you
You don’t need previous finance or insurance experience to apply. We’re far more interested in your potential. Any kind of work experience is valuable — whether that’s a part-time role in retail or hospitality, an office-based placement, volunteering or involvement in a society or team. If you’ve had to analyse information, manage competing priorities, communicate clearly or take ownership of a task, you’ve already started building skills that matter in this role.
You’ll bring curiosity, analytical thinking and a willingness to learn. You’ll be comfortable working with numbers, open to feedback and ready to contribute ideas.
We’re particularly looking for:
- Strong analytical and numerical skills - you’ll be working with financial data and performance insight
- Communication and storytelling skills - Finance partners with teams across the business and must explain insights clearly
- Attention to detail - accuracy matters when working with financial reporting and planning
- Adaptability - planning cycles and business priorities can shift quickly
- Initiative and problem-solving - you’ll be encouraged to ask questions, explore improvements and think critically
- Digital literacy and a learning mindset - confidence using tools such as Microsoft 365, particularly Excel, alongside curiosity about finance technology and emerging AI applications
If you’re motivated, analytical and ready to challenge yourself in a professional environment where your contribution genuinely matters, we’d love to hear from you.
