Job Description

Farming Propositions Consultant

  • Play a key role in shaping NFU Mutual’s farming propositions, influencing real change for rural customers and communities across the UK.

  • Work at the heart of the business, collaborating with underwriting, pricing and claims to turn insight into commercially impactful solutions.

  • Hybrid role with 80% homeworking and 20% in Stratford-upon-Avon

About the role

At NFU Mutual, our farming propositions play a central role in how we support rural communities and farming businesses evolve with a changing agricultural landscape. As a Propositions Consultant, you’ll help shape, review and refine our farming product propositions to ensure they remain competitive, commercially strong and aligned to customer needs.

You’ll lead or contribute to the evaluation of existing propositions, using data, insight and market understanding to identify opportunities for improvement. Working closely with colleagues across underwriting, claims, pricing and distribution, you’ll assess the commercial and customer impact of potential changes and develop well-structured recommendations and business cases to support decision making. You’ll also bring a balanced view of risk, regulation and customer outcomes.

This is a highly collaborative role where you’ll act as a central point of coordination across multiple stakeholders, ensuring the right expertise is brought together to progress initiatives effectively. You’ll support propositions through governance and delivery stages, helping translate strategy into practical, customer-focused solutions. Alongside planned reviews, you’ll also contribute to ad hoc projects and initiatives that support the wider farming strategy.

With up to 80% homeworking available and 20% based in Stratford-upon-Avon, the role also offers the opportunity to attend industry shows and networking events across the UK, building relationships and maintaining a strong understanding of developments within the agricultural sector.

This is a varied and visible role that combines strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, offering the opportunity to influence meaningful change within one of NFU Mutual’s most important markets.

About you

You’ll bring strong Commercial GI insurance experience and a solid understanding of how products and underwriting decisions translate into customer and commercial outcomes. Comfortable working with data and insight, you’ll be able to evaluate performance, assess impact and shape well-reasoned recommendations that balance risk, regulation and opportunity. Knowledge of agricultural or farming insurance products, or experience within the rural sector, would be highly advantageous.

You’ll thrive in a collaborative environment, confidently engaging and influencing stakeholders across the business and externally. Organised, proactive and self-motivated, you’ll combine strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, building trusted relationships and communicating complex ideas clearly and persuasively.

To succeed in this role, you’ll be able to demonstrate:

  • Commercial GI insurance experience, with good underwriting and product knowledge

  • Knowledge of agricultural insurance products or the wider rural sector

  • The ability to analyse and interpret data to support commercially sound decision-making

  • Proven experience engaging, influencing and managing stakeholders at multiple levels

  • Confident communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex information clearly

  • A proactive, collaborative and highly organised approach, with strong networking capability
