Start date: You’ll join as a cohort on the 4th January
What you can expect
Our Large Corporate Insurance (LCI) Claims department specialises in handling complex motor, property and liability claims for some of NFU Mutual’s biggest clients. Whether it’s assessing liability, preventing fraud, or supporting customers through challenging situations, the LCI team plays a vital role in protecting our clients and maintaining NFU Mutual’s reputation for outstanding service.
As a Claims Apprentice, you'll play an important role in supporting our LCI clients by investigating and processing claims. You’ll apply sound judgement to help prevent loss and fraud, ensuring fair outcomes and delivering excellent customer service. Throughout the apprenticeship, you’ll be immersed in a variety of work placements that will give you a broad understanding of the business. These placements are designed to help you build technical knowledge, develop core professional skills, and contribute meaningfully to team objectives.
This journey is designed to build your skills, confidence, and career in insurance. As part of the scheme, you’ll gain a recognised insurance qualification (Cert CII) and complete a structured development programme designed to set you up for success. You’ll have 20% protected study time built into your week, plus plenty of support from your manager, mentor, and a dedicated programme lead to guide you from day one through to your end point assessment.
You’ll be joining on a fixed-term contract for the duration of the apprenticeship, but providing you complete the programme and meet expectations, you’ll move into a permanent role within the team.
Your future
In your first few weeks, you’ll focus on learning the ropes – getting to know the NFU Mutual processes and LCI team ways of working, getting to know your future team leader and understanding the type of work you’ll be getting involved with.
As your confidence grows, you’ll start to get more hands-on– shadowing current team members to get a real insight in what it’s like to manage claims. You’ll work closely with a dedicated trainer who will work with you to grow your skills in liaising with customers, how to effectively use our systems and achieving the key milestones in your development.
You’ll also complete the Certificate in Insurance as part of the Level 3 Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship. As you progress, you’ll develop specific regulatory and technical knowledge that will enable you to contribute effectively to your placement area. You’ll also gain hands-on experience in assessing and evaluating claims, appointing suppliers and experts where needed, and keeping relevant parties informed while maintaining high customer service standards.
During training, you’ll spend more time in the office to help you settle in, with more hybrid working available afterwards. You’ll also have one day a week to focus on your apprenticeship, which you can do from home. You’ll join a friendly, supportive team, many of whom started in the same way.
Application process
We keep things simple and supportive. You'll complete a brief online application form. If shortlisted, you'll complete an online assessment and if successful, progress to a telephone interview with our Talent Acquisition team. The final stage is an in-person assessment centre at our Head Office where you’ll participate in a variety of activities including a group exercise, a role-specific task, and a skills-based interview on either the 19th and 23rd October.
Please note this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship as it does not fulfil the criteria set by the Home Office.
This vacancy may close early depending on application volumes so we recommend getting your application in as soon as possible!
