Job Description

We’re on a mission to create a diverse group of future leaders. We do that through professional apprenticeships because we believe learning on-the-job creates a more equitable and successful path to careers. We find, train and support talented individuals, wherever they are in their career journey, and equip them with the in-demand tech, software engineering, and data skills to transform their careers and deliver a better route to growth for their employers.

We’ve had some big achievements. We hit 10,000 apprentices in our community - and counting. We launched one of the largest data apprenticeship programs in the UK with Jaguar Land Rover, and we’ve partnered with companies like Mars, Verizon and CitiBank. Not to forget becoming a mission-driven EdTech unicorn after our $220m Series D.

But we aren’t stopping here. Join Multiverse and build the future of learning at work.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Legal Counsel to join our team and play a vital role in providing expert legal support across various aspects of our business operations. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will be responsible for a wide range of legal matters, including drafting and negotiating contracts, advising on intellectual property issues, ensuring compliance with privacy and data protection regulations, and managing legal risks. You will work closely with cross-functional teams and external counsel to achieve business objectives while minimizing legal risks.

Specifically, you will:

  • Collaborate closely with the Go-To-Market (Sales) team to draft and negotiate B2B customer and partner contracts.

  • Establish self-serve processes and training programs to streamline contract management and ensure scalability.

  • Provide guidance and advice on intellectual property matters to protect our company's assets.

  • Support the Data Privacy Lead in maintaining up-to-date privacy policies and ensuring compliance with data protection laws.

  • Contribute to de-risking contract negotiations and develop strategies to mitigate potential legal issues.

  • Proactively identify and address risks, providing solutions to eliminate or mitigate them.

  • Assist with supplier-related matters, including audits, contract reviews, negotiations, and marketing compliance.

  • Provide legal support for ad-hoc projects across various business functions, such as Finance, HR, Admissions, Operations, Product, Risk & Compliance.

  • Help establish agile risk-based processes and procedures within the organization.

  • Contribute to the development of legal resources and business training programs.

  • Manage external counsel relationships and engage their services when necessary.

About you:

  • 4 to 6 years of experience working in-house or at a top law firm, preferably with secondment experience, focusing on commercial matters.

  • Demonstrated experience in providing end-to-end B2B and commercial contractual support.

  • Proficiency in handling intellectual property matters.

  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to take a pragmatic approach to legal risk and provide practical advice to the business.

  • Experience in building risk management processes and procedures.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong team player with a can-do attitude, willing to tackle tasks of any size.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic business environment.

  • Qualified to practice law in the UK.

  • Prior in-house experience within a high-growth technology company or startup is preferred.

  • Experience working on multi-jurisdictional transactions and matters involving the US and UK would be advantageous.

Benefits

  • Time off - 27 days holiday, plus 7 additional days off: 1 life event day, 2 volunteer days and 4 company-wide wellbeing days and 8 bank holidays per year

  • Health & Wellness - private medical Insurance with Bupa, a medical cashback scheme, life insurance, gym membership & wellness resources through Gympass and access to Spill - all in one mental health support

  • Hybrid & remote work offering - with weekly or monthly visits to the London office and the opportunity to work abroad 45 days a year
