Mott MacDonald is seeking a Principal Bridge Engineer to join our Bridges Engineering & Civil Structures group and play a key role in the continued growth in the Alberta market. This is an exciting opportunity for an established bridge engineering professional to provide technical leadership on major infrastructure projects, influence the development of a growing team, and help shape the future direction of our practice in Western Canada. This role will be the Bridges Engineering and Civil Structures Technical Lead in Alberta.

Working alongside a globally connected network of experts, you will contribute to landmark bridge and transportation projects, support strategic growth initiatives, mentor emerging talent, and help deliver innovative engineering solutions that leave a lasting impact on communities across Canada.

As a Principal Bridge Engineer at Mott MacDonald, the individual will be responsible for the below:

  • Supporting our Canadian Bridge Leadership team through the recruitment, development, and retention of top engineering talent, while contributing to resource planning, utilization management, and strategic business initiatives.
  • Providing leadership on team structure, workforce planning, succession planning, and capability development through active mentoring, coaching, and professional guidance.
  • Balancing the needs of people, projects, and clients by effectively prioritizing work, allocating resources, and fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Continuing to cultivate a culture of technical excellence, innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning across the Bridges & Civil Structures team.
  • Demonstrating behaviours that promote our Purpose and align with our PRIDE values, helping create an inclusive and engaging workplace where people can thrive.
  • Championing the health, safety, wellbeing, and career development of team members while supporting employee engagement and professional growth.
  • Supporting business development efforts and working closely with Account Leads to identify opportunities, strengthen client relationships, and secure new work in Alberta and across Canada.
  • Delivering innovative and technically robust design solutions for new bridge projects, bridge rehabilitations, culverts, retaining walls, and other transportation-related structures using current design standards, best practices, and emerging technologies.
  • Serving as a technical leader on matters of bridge engineering practice, including design methodologies, codes and standards, calculations, specifications, and construction documentation.
  • Establishing and enhancing engineering processes, procedures, and quality systems to ensure efficient delivery of consistent, high-quality technical solutions.
  • Collaborating with bridge and structural leaders throughout Canada and the wider Mott MacDonald business to share best practices, lessons learned, and technical innovations that strengthen our global engineering capability.
  • Encouraging the application of digital engineering tools and innovative technologies to improve project delivery, design efficiency, and client outcomes.

To be successful in this role, candidates must be able to bring the experience, skills and qualifications below:

  • A strong academic background, with a bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering (a master's degree would be considered an asset).
  • 15+ years of relevant industry and project experience delivering transportation infrastructure projects, including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and related structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and take ownership of complex structural designs and provide technical direction on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) status with APEGA.
  • Proven project delivery experience with Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (ATEC) and local municipal clients.
  • Strong technical expertise in bridge engineering, design standards, structural analysis, and transportation infrastructure delivery.
  • A passion for innovation and the application of digital tools, emerging technologies, and modern design approaches to develop effective engineering solutions.
  • Ability and enthusiasm for leading, mentoring, and supervising the work of others, including the review, checking, and approval of key project deliverables.
  • Demonstrated project management and collaborative project delivery experience across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholder groups.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, colleagues, and leadership teams while supporting the development of junior engineers.
  • Experience delivering projects outside the transportation sector, such as energy or industrial infrastructure, would be considered an asset.
  • Previous team leadership, resource management, practice leadership, or business development experience would also be considered an asset.

At Mott MacDonald, our employees have a stake and a voice in our business, providing them with a direct connection to our success through our personal and group performance bonuses.

Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.

The expected salary range for this position is from $150,000 - $190,000.

This posting is for an existing vacancy.
