The Mott MacDonald's Canadian Rail Systems team is looking to hire adaptable and self-motivated Systems Integration Engineers to enhance our Systems Engineering groups in Vancouver and Toronto.

As rail & transit projects increase in complexity, there is an ever-increasing need for application of the Systems Engineering process to ensure these projects can be delivered successfully. Systems Integration is a key discipline, fundamental to delivery of System Engineering driven, high-quality projects in a data rich, digital environment.

Working within Mott MacDonald’s multi-discipline Systems Engineering and System Assurance (SESA) team, the Systems Integration Engineer is core to ensuring the systems-of-interest are successfully deployed into rail and transit projects for our clients.


The Role

To ensure MMCL’s interface and integration activities contribute to the success of our system engineering work, you will work within a multi-discipline team of engineering professionals and technical staff in the development, delivery and setting-to-work of railway monitoring and control systems within MM’s North American rail and rail-related projects.

You will undertake the identification and analysis of intra-system data exchange along with system-to-system and system-to-infrastructure interfaces that support the integrated railway. Authoring and managing ICFs and ICDs, you will use your experience, skills and knowledge in ensuring customer needs and requirements are met in the deployed system.

Working alongside Requirements Management resources, System Engineers and System Assurance personnel, you will manage the successful development and deployment of integrated systems in both greenfield and brownfield environments.

  • Identify, analyse and document interfaces within and between systems
  • Integration of Rail Systems into overall light rail, urban transit and heavy rail projects.
  • Working in a multi-discipline SESA team
  • Work with key delivery partners and service providers for projects.
  • Assist in the commissioning and setting to work of Rail Control systems
  • Actively supporting the development of bids.
  • Support of construction activities from the office and in the field
  • Interaction with, and direct support to colleagues across Mott MacDonald
  • Engage with end clients as and when necessary

Candidate Specifications

  • P.Eng in Alberta, BC or Ontario or able to register
  • Minimum 5 years’ progressive experience in the integration of systems, preferably in rail and transit or other public infrastructure projects
  • Demonstrable experience in the development or deployment of complex systems
  • Demonstrable experience in the setting to work of integrated solutions
  • Demonstrable experience working with requirements, including development and elicitation
  • Working knowledge of IEC 15288
  • INCOSE ASEP certification is desirable.
  • Strong communication skills and English fluency.
  • Good interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplined team.
  • Able to hold competent technical discussions with Client representatives
  • Able to interface with domain specialists, design managers and construction project managers, in a competent professional manner.
  • Knowledge of railway systems and / or operation within infrastructure projects / technology development and implementation projects.
  • Broad experience of delivery within major infrastructure projects.

In compliance with the B.C. Pay Transparency Act, the expected salary range is from $92,000 - $117,000
Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.
