Mott MacDonald is a vibrant and forward-thinking engineering, management, and development consultancy. Working together as a global team we plan, design, deliver and maintain the transport, energy, water, buildings, and wider infrastructure that is integral to people’s daily lives. We value excellence in every dimension of our business and continuously seek opportunities to improve what we do and how we do it.

We employ brilliant people who combine their diverse skills and experiences to achieve brilliant things. Whether you want to specialise or broaden your experience, you'll be supported by global specialists eager to share their expertise. With numerous opportunities to learn and grow, the possibilities are as diverse as our people. Working as a connected global team, we deliver impactful projects that shape the future.

Your Opportunity

Due to strong growth and an exciting pipeline of projects, our Energy team has an exciting opening for a Senior Electrical Engineer in the Sydney office. You will be joining a diverse and passionate team with a proven track record delivering major projects across New South Wales.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer in the energy space, you will support the delivery of current and future Energy and Transport projects. You will have experience in strong HV design, earthing assessment and power system modelling capability, able to take ownership of defined work packages, produce high-quality technical documentation, and interface effectively with clients, OEMs and internal disciplines.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Deliver electrical engineering design packages across HV and LV scopes (primary substation design, cable sizing and routing, layouts/sections, specifications and interface documents).

  • Undertake earthing assessment and design tasks, including modelling in CDEGS and supporting on-site testing and reporting as required.

  • Perform power system modelling and studies (load flow, stability and fault analysis) using tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD and ETAP, and document results in clear technical reports.

  • Apply Safety in Design and relevant legislation/standards to identify risks and ensure compliant, practical engineering solutions.

  • Coordinate with clients, DNSPs, OEMs and internal disciplines to resolve technical issues, manage interfaces and support timely project delivery.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement by automating repeatable technical studies and information management processes (e.g., using Python) to improve quality and efficiency.

  • Support team capability by sharing knowledge, mentoring junior staff as appropriate, and providing input to tenders and optioneering studies.

About You

  • You hold relevant qualifications in electrical engineering and bring strong industry experience, with exposure to projects that have helped you build a solid technical foundation and a track record of delivering high-quality work. You will typically have gained this through around 4-8 years of relevant experience.

  • You are a motivated and capable engineer who enjoys taking ownership of your work, applying sound judgement and contributing to safe, high-quality outcomes across HV design, earthing and power system studies.

  • You bring a collaborative mindset, build positive working relationships and are keen to keep developing your skills, while looking for smarter ways of working and role modelling the PRIDE values in the way you deliver.

  • You may be looking for a change and excited by the opportunity to join a high-performing, motivated team where technical excellence is valued just as much as positive team spirit.
