Job Description

Senior Civil Engineer – Water Infrastructure | Hamilton

Shape a better world with us.

At Mott MacDonald, we’re a global, employee-owned consultancy with strong local leadership and autonomy. We work on transformative projects across New Zealand and Australia, partnering with high-profile clients to deliver sustainable solutions.

Our culture is collaborative and supportive. We value equality, diversity, and inclusion – and we take proactive steps to create a workplace where everyone can thrive

Your Opportunity
Join our growing Water Infrastructure team in Hamilton and play a key role in delivering major projects across the Waikato and beyond. You’ll work on complex and rewarding assignments, including significant water schemes that make a real difference to communities.

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you’ll lead the design and management of 3-waters infrastructure – pipelines, pump stations, and treatment plants. You’ll also have the chance to contribute to construction monitoring and contractual matters, while building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and planning: Develop efficient, safe systems for stormwater, water supply, and wastewater – from pipelines to reservoirs.
  • Construction oversight: Act as Engineer’s Representative or Assistant, ensuring projects are delivered to the highest standards.
  • Project management: Oversee feasibility studies, detailed design, and MSQA projects, collaborating closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

About You
You’re an experienced Civil Engineer with a proven track record in stormwater, water, and wastewater projects. Your technical expertise spans key design areas such as pressure/rising mains, trenchless techniques, gravity pipelines, pump stations, and reservoirs.

  • Qualifications: A degree in Civil Engineering is essential. CPEng (Chartered Professional Engineer) status is preferred, but we welcome candidates ready to take the next step towards chartership.
  • Skills: Strong design capability, client relationship management, and excellent communication skills.
  • Mindset: Collaborative, proactive, and committed to delivering projects that matter.

Why Join Us?
At Mott MacDonald, you’ll be part of a team that values your ideas and invests in your growth. You’ll work on projects that have a lasting impact on communities, supported by a global network and local autonomy.

Ready to make a difference? Apply today and help us deliver sustainable water solutions for the future.
